Actually James, Rattus is partially right.
Your video may be NTSC Compatible, but this only means that it can playback NTSC cassettes.
It does not have the required decoder to understand the colour stream of the NTSC signal, and so you get a monochrome picture. it's exactly the same reason for why you get a monochrome picture on your other TV's. Unless all your TV's are NTSC compatible they cannot display a colour NTSC picture.
There are two solutions that I know of.
You could have a Multimod fitted to your player to output PAL60, which your video would then output correctly for about £80-90 (this would also disable macrovision, allowing the recording of the DVD). Check out

Or, you could buy an NTSC-PAL converter and place this in between the DVD player and video. Any satellite magazine will have adverts for these and they cost around £50.
