How seriously do you take Strictly?

There has been a lot of talk about how seriously Strictly is taken this week so I though I'd ask just how seriously do you take the show?

Do you regard it as a serious dance contest in which the best dancer should win or do you regard it as a more light hearted contest and you don't mind who wins.

I personally like to look at Strictly as a bit of fun on Saturday evening, I don't mind who wins. So long as everybody enjoys themselves.

If someone wins who isn't really that good at dancing but they are entertaining, I still think the show has delivered what it set out to do: entertain.

My Gran on the other hand is a keen dancer and to be honest, I do think she takes the show a bit too seriously.

It's just a lighthearted entertainment show for me. I quite like all the contestants and don't mind who wins.

X Factor, on the other hand ..

Well this is what Kristina thinks about the whole entertainment vs serious dance competition issue - spoken by the lady herself at 1 min 56 secs in.

I take it as somthing to look forward to and somtihng to laugh and smile and be wow'd at

This year, Christine, John, Gary rhodes' hands and AGAIN bruno have made it for me alone
And seeing threads such as "Jumping the shark" just anger me a little, I still enjoy it very much so

I don't take it seriously at all. It's a bit of fun on a Saturday evening during the build up to Christmas. Or at least it was until it got spiteful and nasty during this series.

It's just a bit of a laugh. In the scheme of things, who is eliminated and who eventually wins is not really important at all. That said, part of the enjoyment is deciding on your favourite / least favourite couple(s) and discussing it.

As far as that's concerned, I think it makes much more sense with this show to give a signficantly higher weighting to dancing talent compared with other potential considerations e.g. perceptions of character, looks, wit, intelligence, application, how 'victimised' someone is by the judges, how nicely dressed they are, resemblance to a low-calorie lemon souffle or whatever. By that I don't mean some sort of inverse ranking where somehow the worst dancer is ranked first either.

However, it's only my estimation of dancing talent that counts and I don't care at all if nobody else agrees with my opinion and I'm not unduly bothered with what the judges say and I try very hard to prevent anyone else (especially the judges) influencing my decisions.

So it's a light-hearted contest and I don't really mind who wins but normally I do have a preference and I tend to favour the better dancers because I feel I can make a more informed judgment on the quality of the dancing than 'personality' issues.

I'm not precious about my dancing. As long as a couple manages to bring a smile to my face, then they have done their job.
