The ITV EPG data bug is the worst one for me - the only way to record True Lies yesterday was to manually tune to it and press record, and manually extend it to the end of the programme.
The HDR may not be able to cope with a programme being marked as both HD and split into two parts.

This is my contribution:
a) The Diagnotics display shows a signal for Tuner 1 when only Tuner2 is connected - and vice versa.
b) The Post Code shown on the Diagnostic dispaly is often wrong, the last character can be missing, or an extra character can be inserted at end.
c) It is not possible to start a recording from the EPG display after the programme itself has started.
d) The sound and background picture is suspended for the first 30 seconds when the EPG is entered. If the receiver needs to scan the EPG it should do this as a background activity when Tuner 2 is free.
e) The Time shift buffer is lost when the EPG is viewed.
f) The receiver should display what channels have been altered when it does an autotune after power on.
g) The diagnostic screen does not show what satellite the receiver is attempting to receive from
h) The receiver does not pass the channel name to the TV when connected by Scart/RGB. Channel 4 broadcasts its name, but not the BBC or ITV. My TV briefly displays the name when I select that scart socket.
i) Deleting recorded programmes takes to many button presses.
j) Box froze when left displaying EPG for some hours.
When in 'non-Freesat' mode the HDR:
a) Ignores any Freesat scheduled recordings,
b) Loses details of all Freesat scheduled recordings if a transponder is scanned.
c) Loses details of all Freesat favourites if a transponder is scanned.
d) Has poor channel management - no favourite list for example.
Switching between Freesat and non Freesat requires several button presses.
Entering the mode to scan the transponders of non Freesat satellites also requires several button presses. An option to make the advance features permanently available would be better.

Or ... it's doing exactly what the badly created meta data is telling it to do? The Humax box is the last link in a long chain of new technology, don't always assume that makes it the culprit. I'm not saying that there are no problems with the Foxsat, but some of the issues are to do with other parts of the broadcast chain, especially if it's from channels that might not be part of defing the standards, but implementing them themselves.

I'm afraid this is the inherent problem with forums and modern day devices.
People come on forums like this to report problems - hoping for help. Those who have no problems do not come to these kind of places. So it does not have any indication that a particular box is good or bad...
Unfortunately there's only one Freesat+ PVR, so this tend to get ALL problems (whether it is Freesat or Humax's fault or just plain bad luck or the retailer, or whatever) blamed on it - most people calling it a 'bug' - not knowing any better...
Fortunately, because there's only one Freesat+ PVR, it will still succeed to sell, and due to the small numbers out at the moment, those who've got one are pretty glad to have one...
Hopefully, someone should start a thread stating why the HDR is the best thing since slice bread!

This can happen under normal conditions if the next episode is not on for more than seven days or the unit has not scanned the epg to find the next episode.
Re the HDMI I have my one via my Sony Amp and when I power up the Humax quite often I get no HDMI picture or sound till I switch to another HDMI input on the amp and then back again.
My unit has been powered up and has not crashed since the first Monday they were on sale.

Certainly No.
I am delighted with it. Yes, 1 or 2 minor teething problems but compared to the junk we have had to put up with from Sky for many years, it's a revelation.
Sky HD *today* is probably still more unreliable and the Humax has been out for what, 2 months? Overall Humax have done a brilliant job and a couple of software tweaks and it's sorted.
Got my box last week and spotted a few bugs/annoyances/problems. Before i start moaning i would just like to say that overall i am very happy with it.
right here goes.
1) When listing recordings in alphabetical order it lists the folders first then the files. So you have a-z in folders then a-z in files. Would be better if it could include files and folders in the same a-z, or maybe have the option to record series without creating a folder.
2) When you go in to the media list it goes back to where ever you were in the list last time (ie whatever folder you were in). Would be better if always went to the main list.
3) Remote control seems to have been designed by Stevie Wonder. Not a lot you can do about that i suppose, but the layout and menu system is not great.
4) It seems you can only delete something when not recording. Would be nice to be able to delete while programs are recording.
5) The tv guide always starts from the channel you are viewing. It would be nice to be able to always start from BBC1
6) When deleting the last file in a folder it would be nice if the folder was also deleted at the same time.
7) Not sure if this is a bug or just my box.

8) Set strictly come dancing (for wife) on serial link.
It picked up the main program on HD but the results show later that night was not set to record. When i then tried to set it to record it said there was a clash with harry hill that wasn't even on at that time.
As already stated, overall i am very happy with the thing and hopefully minor bugs will be ironed out over the next few months.

Experience would suggest that if you buy a product such as the HDR in the very early days of its product life you can expect problems. Identifying these problems is a positive step towards getting them fixed.
The Internet with forums such as this is an excellent mechanism for providing this feedback.I bought my TF5800 Freeview PVR because I found www.toppy.org.uk. When the box crashed in the first week of use, I looked on this web site, saw that everyone else had the same problem and waited patiently for a fix which duly came.
I had my Nokia mobile phone for about 6 months before Nokia fixed some of the problems with the web browser, and it was not a new product when I bought it.

From what I have read here, my main concerns with the HDR problems getting fixed are twofold.
1) A number of the problems reported look as if they relate to hardware, although some of them may simply be poor assembly. With any luck, the continued supply problems may be due to Humax slowing down assembly while they get the gremlins out. If that should be true, those of us who have been forced to wait may get a more reliable unit.
2) The feedback from Bob_Cat is less than reassuring that problems with non-freesat mode will be given any sort of priority (but he might be being cautious). I'm not looking for anything advanced. In fact, I would be content if recording in non-freesat mode was not available at all. It is the interaction with freesat scheduling that concern me. One aspect of a non-managed platform, is that the user needs to regularly maintain channels. Thus, deleting the recording schedule when a non-freesat scan is performed is quite serious. Even more worrying are the reports that the recording schedule can be deleted by merely watching a non-freesat channel. Something sensible also needs to be done about the HDR ignoring freesat recording schedules when left in non-freesat mode.

No from me have been an admirer of humax for a few years but never bought any of their products till we got the foxsat hd box which now sits in the bedroom now the hdr i am very impressed with it like the way you can format the harddrive adjust your own space,the ability to record in non freesat mode and other little bits.

It maybe a few boxes but we tend to watch a lot in non freesat mode and our schedule hasnt been wiped only the first time when doing a scan maybe a fix might be in the pipeline.

Well, I certainly hope they get the bugs fixed soon. When Humax's DirecTV HDR offerering hits USA in the first half of 2009, guess who's going to get priority for bug fixes.

I've had a quick look through the forum and cannot find this specific issue. I can record HD by opting for a HD recording via the EPG but for some reason I never ever get the red button on ITV. Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a fix?

hd is only available on itv when a programme is scheduled, wizz through the epg to sunday and find Britannia High which you will see is in hd

I think the red button only actually appears on screen during the actual transmission of the HD programme.

Hmmm. Hadn't thought of that possibility for confusion. I wonder how many people are selecting a programme in the EPG and then pressing the red button to record it in HD. If I remember correctly, pressing the red button when in the EPG will schedule the recording without the prompts. As the entry in the EPG is for the SD channel, that is what would be recorded.

Is digital text not available via ITV on Freesat as I cannot get that neither.
awo, the team working on DirecTV projects is an entirely different division. Humax has over 300 R&D staff, we allocate specialists for each project, product type and technology set. The team working on UK retail projects rarely work on PayTV. The project team is likely to remain working on this until Easter 2009 at the earliest, if we can keep finding something interesting for them to do we would like to keep them busy on this family of product forever.
