Here's an idea, inspired by some of the "problems" that have been reported. How about some smarts that figure out what the user meant to do rather than what buttons they actually pressed.
I'm only half joking. There should be some scope for collecting common mistakes (e.g. through your support line or this forum) and providing some "tips" when a possible mistake has been made. One idea that comes to mind is, if the software sees the user apparently browsing aimlessly through the menu without actually changing anything, it could offer some help. Could make for a faster learning curve (and fewer support calls) for what is a fairly complex machine.

Hi,
Noticed another funny a few days ago... when reading the BBC news text pages late in the night (on several seperate occasions), I jumped to the next news item by pressing the 'right' button on the wheel (thing) - this often jumped two pages not just one, and it got quite uncontrollable.
Not sure what happened, but I only got the first 20+ minutes of The Merchant of Venice HD recorded via the schedule.
I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before, but if deletion while recording is going to be problematic for HDD I/O performance reasons, why not go halfway house and simply mark the recording to be deleted instead, then allow the PVR to delete the files when it is housekeeping. You could then potentially 'undelete' recordings that you didn't mean to delete, or someone else had deleted for you - plus point indeed.
Nice box - though unfortunately the remote's complexity has meant that I had to go out and get a FreeSat telly for the wife. We now use the TV for watching live programs, and the PVR just like a (dual channel) Video Recorder. One-button switch on, and volume change awkwardness caused mild rejection.
Keep up the good work - look forward for the updates and future features.

I have been using series record on Neighbours 1.45--2.15pm on Five for a while without problems, but yesterday it missed the episode. The box stayed in its deep sleep mode.

I agree it's a bit nit picking, but you can't dismiss all of these just like that and some of them are valid. For example:
b) is NOT operator error
c) may not be important but logically should be allowed
e) would be very nice. It's extremely irritating with Sky that if you accidentally hit TV Guide or similar, you can't then rewind. Same with the Humax - it would be nice if the buffer wasn't lost unless you actually changed channels.
I could go on. But you get my point - your criticism was in itself "picky".
Watching BBC 1 o'clock news today on chase play, (25mins behind live play), when the bloomin' thing jumped to Doctors, (starts at 1.45pm), which my wife set up to record. Why can't it just continue on when on same channel, or at least allow me to go back to where I left off? Live pause resets to starting point of new recording. I don't even like doctors, BBC or Real ones.

Initially this was a problem for me but when I went back in I realised that the error was due to how I input the postcode. So I am satisfied it is an operator error.
Am I being “picky” – no. As I said before I am trying to inject some realism and balance.

that says maybe but the post from machare was the first pointing out that he believed it to be a bug not your subsequent post that claimed it was down to his operator error.

Me too! There are far more serious problems of missed recordings and power-offs to worry about!
With regards to whoever said that it jumped to the start of another programme when you were doing chase playback, these does seem to be a problem.
If you're watching something and recording it at the same time then as soon as the recording finishes (or I assume as soon as another starts) it jumps straight to live tv.

You can be as satisfied as you like, but you are wrong.
My postcode shows up OK now, but it didn't before and I haven't re-entered anything.
So unless the Humax changing your postcode on it's own is expected behaviour, it's not operator error, is it.
The postcode thing is definitely a bug. Just gone into diagnostics 3 times, once it displayed it OK, the other twice it appended a random letter on the end (an "o" and a "D").

I like to think of it as just a quirk
the old non hdd did the same, it's perfectly harmless..

Yes this is a bug and although some people don't see it as being important or relevant isn't this the whole point of the thread
As an aside I'd like to know what the relative strength and quality both tuners are reporting and hope it gets fixed.
I have had this twice now but cannot pin it down to anything yet.
Whilst not recording or doing anything in particular, the box becomes very slow to respond to button pushes. The video decoding has noticeable glitches although the sound is OK.
Just like the CPU is VERY busy doing something.
I went into the menu/diagnostics and neither tuner displayed a signal although the (jerky) picture returned afterwards.
A (soft) power-off/on cycle restored normality.
02 software with 2x LNB connected.

Wow, that's quite a list, I've had mine for a few weeks also and only come across one bug...as posted earlier.
None of those problems have occured with mine
It sounds to me that you may have a faulty box or possibly a poor signal problem....cableing/connections or dish alignment.

This has been reported several times, and is a bug, hopefully it will soon be fixed with an update of software.
