I assume channels would flag late programs correctly, Ill add 5 mins padding to all recordings now then.

What happens when you record 2 programs at 9-10pm and one at 10-11pm. Will it inform you of a conflict or miss something?

Dunno but i recorded 2 bbc programs last night one on BBCHD ok and im on single cable and if you do quick record of what you are watching by pressing the red record button, pressing a 2nd time you can set the mins to record rather than the 30/60/90 mins thats clever

Couple to add after 3 days ownership and playing;

i) When entering a channel number; (presumably the fastest way to get to a channel if you know its number) - the input field has space for 4 digits; but if you type 0101 (in order to avoid the delay whilst it waits for a 4th digit if you just typed 101) it just ignores the entry and stays on the same channel. You have to type 101 on its own; and then wait.

ii) When selecting BBC HD, everything fine - and then about 10 seconds after selecting the channel it's as if it has suddenly been selected again, with a brief blank screen and the TV resetting screen mode. Fine after that.

It's true that you can't type 0101 -- but you can instead do 101 followed by OK and it'll switch over immediately.

Are you using HDMI or SCART? After a few seconds, the picture through SCART is switched to non-RGB mode because of the copy restrictions on BBC HD. On my TV, the picture goes obviously more fuzzy after a few seconds when the output is switched so I imagine this could be your TV adjusting.

Thanks - that will help, but still sounds like a bug...

Both SCART & HDMI - and affects both TVs that I have tried my HDR with - a Sony Trinitron (SCART only of course) and Sony Bravia LCD (SCART & HDMI)

Have you set the output from the HDR to 'Original'? I have, and I get a blank screen as the signal switches to 1080 from whatever it was before and my receiver re-syncs.

Box ended up in a funny standby mode last night. Switched off (via remote); and then noticed about 10 minutes later that the front panel was showing the clock (as normal) but also showed the TV and 576i glyphs.

Strange, I thought, but assumed the box knew what it was doing. Turns out it didn't and missed all of my scheduled recordings for last night; however by this morining it looked more like a normal standby, and switched on normally.

Another lockup last night same problem

Viewing EPG whilst recording a program via HD

Mine looked about again last night whilst recording the brothers grim on BBC HD the last 10 minutes and I looked at the EPG and I couldn't close the EPG the remote for the PVR wouldn't respond although everything else on remote would. This is the 2nd time now I have had to switch off the PVR when I knew film had ended about 10ish to get it to work thus loosing the recording

EDIT didnt see post above so loks like same problem as them lost

Any chance they can have a look at the MyStuff TAP on the Topfield 5800 and see what they can do to emulate its excellent handling of the EPG and recording system, especially its Control Timer feature which allows for permanent programme searches?

I think that there's one over the IR detector as well!

Graham, sorry to sound thick, but where exactly do you mean? On the back of the door door that covers the front panel, or somewhere on the front panel itself? Thanks in advance for letting me know.

Open the flap and it's on the left hand side (not on the flap, on the front panel of the main unit)

It's stuck on so well as to be invisible.

Thanks. Ruddy hell, that's hard to spot. I would never have guessed it was even there!

Crikey - never spotted that. Even after you said there were 2, I had no idea where the 2nd one could be!

I dont think that designed to come off, you have to virtually scratch it off risking permanent damage.

I managed to get the centre bit off and it works from a much wider angle now.

Same here my remote worked a lot better after I realised there were 2 lots of the stuff to get off.

EPG bug. Go forward or backwards more than about 24 hours (using the direction arrows) and slots appear blank.

However, jump forward using the chapter button (Arrow with bar at the head) and the same empty slots are filled with program details although some do disappear or go missing as you move around.

It take it you mean the plastic film that covers the LCD panel ? If so, I found that OK

However I found another small mod that may improve IR reception, but not sure yet.

If you open the flap and shine a small torch through the LCD window of the flap from underneath you will see it is clear.

If you then shine it through the small circular window that the IR receiver is behind you will find that this is slightly darker. In fact during the manufacture of the flap it looks the whole thing with the exception of the LCD window was sprayed with a kind of semi transparent grey material (on the inside). I think that this should have been masked off the same as the LCD aperture.

I took a small knife and scraped this off of the aperture on the inside of the flap. This makes the aperture clear the same as the LCD window. The only downside of doing this is you see the small circular IR aperture when looking at the front panel. I will see over time if it makes any improvement

I found that the Logitech Harmony remote is much better to use than the original.

Here is an idea which seems to make the remote work more reliably for me. ( I have also removed both pieces of protective film).

Looking at the remote 'sharp' end the transmitter cover is at a very acute angle to the end of the remote itself, so i wondered if i would get a better result by aiming the remote at the Humax, but with the remote angled upwards towards me at the same time...... ie actually pointing at the wall 4-6 feet above the Humax box....... I do seem to get better results.
