The delete option was missing from that menu also the thumbnail icons just showed a symbol rather than a scene from the recording.

This morning I have turned the unit on and I now have the delete option in the menu and thumbnails...

So now I can delete...

Automan.
I understand what happens as it happens to me. It was easy to follow your very first post on this having been there.

I find that when there is no delete option available it is there waiting the next day. Crazy machine..and then its a whole song and dance of wait when one can delete.

Was the box still recording? You can't delete if it is.

I was beginning to work it out that could be the reason too...thanks for replying.

Its very probable that it was recording. I tend to record more than watching straight from the TV. Ideal for a busy house. Arriving so near to Christmas there has not been much time to play with the machine.

Tell you what I cant do though...Ive been going through the hand book today to find out how to delete the main folders (extended episode housing). Some of the series have come to an end..so that cannot be the reason they are staying un- deletable.

You have to go into edit mode to delete the folders, theyve all deleted fine for me in that mode.

Ive cracked it now thanks...via File manager ...the delete button only shows red if I move to the right and highlight the identical list on that side. The red delete button is not available if you try to delete from the identical list on the left side. ... I still dont understand the reasoning of this machine. Why is delete such a long song and dance when you finally are allowed to press that darned button...ha ha..

It's a bit quicker for single recordings, i.e. not in a folder, because there is a 'Delete a File' option when you press OK on the file (from the Media OSD).

It is a bit quicker I will agree...but on my 9200 it takes one second...

Im just not used to this tedious 'press this'...then a menu ...then scroll to the delete option ...and then.... a 'wait message' that takes ages before you are back where you started and enabled into other choices...

I suppose its a hot machine for those who flit from PC to Foxsat and back.. but if you keep your PC separate from the Foxsat then it slowness seem so archaic compared to the 9200.

This, of course, is my opinion and some may not agree...fair enough.

Ghost in the machine.
My Foxsat HDR sprang to life early this morning just showing the time. When I checked it later I found that it had attempted to record two programs linked to folders in the media list, as these programs do not now exist in the EPG I am at a loss as to why this happened. It had tried four times to record each program so I had eight failed to record to delete. I then tried to delete the Folders and no matter what I tried the folders always reappeared when I returned to Media. I eventually gave up and did a reset to factory and retune.
Anybody else experienced similar attempts to record non existant programs.

cybrook, I too find the delete file strangeness annoying.

I cant see why it has to hold your attention with a waste basket filling on screen stopping you from doing anything else. Its not like you can drag it back from the bin.

My Freeview pvr does a very good job of letting you highlight the file press delete and its gone, it may be taking time to delete in the background but its not stopping you moving on to other tasks while it does it.
This imo is the way the Humax should handle file deleting too.

The pvr is filling up quickly with all that HD content on BBC. Wish it had a500Gb hard drive or more now

hear hear! As its HD that makes up the bulk of my recordings I am finding that I have to be constantly watching them and then deleting them! A 500GB hard drive would have been preferable.

Yes. And like the majority of "bugs" in this thread, it's not a bug is it?

I'm swapping mine for a 1TB drive when I get round to it. I'll just have to struggle on with 320GB for now...

Now I have my one hooked up to an additional 1Tb external WD "My Book" drive at least the SD recordings can be moved to it and still played on the machine.

BTW, No thumb nails on the moved version of the programs.

Wouldn't fitting a new drive unvalidate the warrantee?

There is a Humax seal across the cover.

Mine is very easily removable; you just peel it back and stick it back on - most people's don't seem to be stuck down very well, and my sister's didn't even have a sticker on it at all. Unless you do the switch with a butter knife and a hammer and/or are terminally clumsy, it would be completely invisible.

Right. Thanks Max.

I'm not quite terminal yet, and my clumsiness can be controlled (after a pint or two) so I will give it a whirl.

My next question is what make of hard drive (1TB) is the best to get? I know there was one mentioned earlier in this thread but I am just wondering with all these people udating recently there is perhaps a better and maybe cheaper one available now.

Cheers.

I've had my HDR for four weeks now and have just had the first problem with it.
After going to the media menu to delete a previously viewed film (select film and then select delete file) the HDD menu given back to me showed a total blank with all the other recordings missing - the hd usage still showed as 57% however. I shut down the box and rebooted it again and the media menu came back filled once more with the original film still showing.
When trying to delete again the same thing happened!!!
Unfortunately I had to leave it at that as I was leaving on business for a couple of days (and the other half does not want to lose what she has recorded!) I will have a closer look when returning on Tuesday, but has anyone had the same problem occurring?

Barry,

i have put a 1tb Samsung drive in my HDR, it has been used almost continuously over the xmas period, it has operated flawlessly. It is as good as silent and runs very cool, my unit is in a cabinet and as far as i can tell the fan has never run. Also the top of the metel cover remains cool even when recording 2 channels and playing a recording.

Would you mind giving the name and part number of the drive you use, as that is useful for people considering doing this? Thanks.

- Added a reservation - series link - within 5 minutes of the program start (The Championship, ITV1, 11PM).
- Pressed standby, as expected box didn't really sleep but stayed awake waiting for program start
- Pressed "standby" again to switch back on, front display as normal, and responding to channel change, but HDMI output DID NOT come back on, so cannot view picture
- Pressed standby, display goes to clock as expected
- Program start time, box starts to record
- Pressed standby to turn on, still no picture on HDMI
- Pulled the plug, full reboot
- Everything as normal, HDMI output now enabled, but...
- Box DID NOT resume recording The Championship

The two items in bold appear to be separate bugs, both manifesting in the above sequence of events.
