Had a couple of strange things happen last night. Here goes:-

I had set the following to record:-

Shameless – Ch 4 – 10:00 => 11:05 (One off)
Grownups – BBC 3 – 10:30 => 11:00 (Series Link)
Shameless – E4 – 11:00 => 12:05 (Series Link)

I double checked the schedule just after 10:00 whilst it was recording Shameless after which I put it in standby.

I have it set to pad with 2 minutes at the beginning and 5 minutes at the end, so with my padding I would have expected the following:-

Shameless – Ch 4 – 9:58 => 11:10
Grownups – BBC 3 – 10:28 => 11:00
Shameless – E4 – 11:00 => 12:10

i.e. padding to be dropped on the end of Grownups and the beginning of E4’s Shameless. At 11:40 (ish) I switched it back on and was surprised to see that the padding on Grownups had not been driopped and it was 37 minutes long. Checking channel 4’s Shameless showed it was only 60 minutes long (instead of 72) so I switched to channel 4+1 and pressed the record button so I would have the end.

Examining the recordings today shows that the following was recorded:-

Shameless – Ch 4 – 9:58 => 10:58 (this has a picture of a film strip with a lightning bolt through it – never seen it before but I assume this indicates there is a problem with the recording)
Grownups – BBC 3 – 10:28 => 11:05
Shameless – E4 – 10:58 => 12:10

So anyone have any idea why it decided to miss the last 7 minutes of a scheduled program? There were obviously no clashes at all and none were reported whilst viewing the schedule (it just appears to have got confused and dropped an in progress recording instead of dropping the padding).

The other odd thing is that when Shameless had finished on Channel 4+1 the unit kept recording and I manually stopped it just before 12:20 last night (it was recording The Big Bang Theory). If I had thought about it I would have checked the schedule to see what it was showing and whether it would have stopped at the end of the Big Bang Theory however, I was tired and just stopped the recording without thinking.

Did anyone else record the same combination of programs and have any oddities? Anyone ever seen the strange symbol I describe above (film strip with a lightning bolt through it)?

Another day, another bug.

When sending the box to "standby" from BBC HD, all front panel glyphs (e.g. 1080) remain illuminated.

A couple more 'failed' recordings with either the start of the programme missing or only 10 minutes recorded. The reason given: 'Conflict with higher priority recording'. I don't remember prioritising anything.

It's no good the box deciding there's such a problem without any chance to fix it. On the Topfield 5800 with MyStuff (sorry to mention it again, but Humax really do need to have a look at it - they're going for less than £100 on Ebay and MyStuff is free!) a quick look at the EPG shows there are recording conflicts. I've seen no such indication on the Humax.

On top of the failed recordings (and I've not told Management yet!!), the box froze again last night. Looks like we need a firmware upgrade pretty soon.

I would have expected the warning message box to come up at 10:58 (when the E4 programe was meant to start recording).
As you were not around to reply to the message, I would then expect the E4 programme to start recording at 11:05 (when the BBC3 tuner became free).
The E4 programe would then have the "film strip with a lightning bolt" symbol, to warn that the recording had (partially) failed.

I use the same padding settings as you, and often seem to hit this issue around 9pm because I'm recording BBC1 and BBC2 until 9pm, then attempting to record (say) ITV3 from 9pm onwards. It's normally the 9pm programe that "fails" with the lightning bolt, and gets it's start chopped off. To me, this seems the logical way to handle clashes. If the box dropped padding, you could end up with two failed recordings !

Anyway, your box certainly behaves differently to mine. Maybe the next software update will get rid of these inconsistencies, and hopefully be a bit more clever at dealing with recording clashes.

If you are recording X and press pause whilst watching X, then you miss the end of X when watching it.

If you are recording X, go into Media, find X, play it back and then pause, you will not miss its end.

Not a bug. The box was just busy at the time.

We have already been round this route. It was already determined that the OP had a problem with chasing playback (not tsr). This I could not reproduce and from your posting neither can you.

Yes I think it would be better if it was clever enough to work out that if it recorded E4 Shameless at 12:00 from E4+1 instead then it culd record all 3 programs and maintain padding on all of them.

Surely the box has to assume when there are clashes caused by padding that programs are running to schedule though and attempt to record each program for it's specified EPG duration at least. That's what I would expect othewise you would always lose beginnings of programs even when broadcasters are running on time.

The recording itself is not a bug you set an impossible schedule.

If you check your timings, after 11pm had passed, with the padding you had 3 programmes set to record simoultaneously when only 2 were possible.

I'm guessing the box compensated by cutting short one of the recordings.

However, it should have warned you of a conflict and in so far as it appears it didn't, then the failuer to warn was a glitch / bug.

They stay illuminated for as long as it is in "standby".

I'm used to PVR's that are clever enough to drop start or end paddings on individual recordings to cope with this situation. As the Humax did not warn me about any clashes I assumed that this is what it would have done.

In my opinion it should never cut a current recording short. It should stop at the EPG finish time + end padding or just the EPG finish time if there are clashes.

And it should start at the EPG start time - start padding or the EPG start time if there are clashes.

Seems sensible to me.

Recorded supernatural last night but still showing in the schedule recordings for last night still,also for the same programme sometimes you can record the whole series and sometimes you cant just gives the option to record or watch.

Just had a new one.

I had set the football to record tonight and the highlights later one.

The football recorded, well until ITV flagged that it had finished before ET had started.

Heres the weird thing, the EPG was updated and the highlights reserved recording had transferred to the ITV news which had been delayed into the highlights time slot.

If I hadnt checked, the highlighs would have been missed as well as ET!

I set ITV HD to record for the football along with Ice Road Truckers on Five tonight.

Some time after the football had started I changed channel to watch it and got ITV SD with the red dot. When I pressed red I got a black rectangle in the centre of the screen with the ITV HD logo in the middle of it. After that, nothing. The SD programme continued behind the black rectangle but nothing changed. It was only after I had stopped the recording and moved away from ITV and then back again that I could get the HD broadcast by pressing red.

There appears to be a bug that reports incorrectly that there is not enough space on USB device somewhere around the point where more than 4GB is used.

The following sequence shows this.

Recorded 20 mins of BBC HD creating a .ts file of 2.44GB

Inserted a 8GB USB FAT32 pen drive with 7.37GB of space.

Copied the recording and support files to root of USB

Copied same recording to a folder on the same device without a problem

Created a 3rd Folder and attempted to transfer file a 3rd time. Transfer started and stopped very quickly creating only .ts file of 274Mb.

On PC deleted this file and also the 3 files transferred in the first copy.

Attempted to transfer the recording into the 3rd file folder (PC reports free space as 4.92GB). Foxsat now says "No More Storage Available"

Deleting all the HD files on the usb stick on a PC restoring free space to 7.37Gb foxsat still says "No More Storage Available"

Reformatting the pen drive FAT32 restored file transfer capability

This sounds to me as if ITV was recording the football in SD as you can't watch in a different mode to that which you're recording in on a red button channel.

Looks like there's a bug connected with the early morning update.

I put the box into standby each night when I've finished using it and only the red LED is showing. However, for the last few mornings it's been showing the time with the red LED lit when I've gone to use it.

Power saving in standby is switched to 'on' and I've reset it a few times.

I've noticed this a few times now.

If you are watching a recording and cannot hear some important phrase so 'rewind' a few seconds, when you then press 'subtitle' the 'prohibited function' symbol comes up. It will do this for a short while and then allow you to press 'subtitle' to turn them on.

They really do seem to have made a bit of a dog's dinner of the subtitle switching.

Whilst the timebar is still on screen per chance?

If so press exit before sub.

A really stupid bug, though, and one that is made worse by yet another bug: if you press subtitle (or, presumably, any other prohibited function) while the info bar is on it extends the time the info bar remains on the screen.

These UI features really do need some work done on them.

Just tried to recreate this and it's not repeatable this time using a 3.28Gb file. I have spotted an anomally though. If you delete the three recording files on a PC the Foxsat reports in file manager that the file still exists. I imagine that there is a hidden file on the drive that only gets deleted when you delete using the Foxsat. If you deleted enough files on the PC I imagine you will finish up with more and more of these. Best to delete anything using the Foxsat would appear to be the message

I had this problem with a USB stick - something to do with recycle bin on PC ??

The PC will keep the file on the stick until it's deleted from the recycle bin as well.

It's a long thread so excuse me if it has been covered.

I've come across a problem, if the box is recording when I switch it on to view a live programme it does not appear to be fed to the TV. Unplug the HDMI lead and re insert it resolves the problem. TV is a Pioneer KRL 32V.
Has this been seen before?
