OnlyLee,

My Front USB works fine, using usb stick to transfer photos/music no problems ????

I think that most of us who jumped at getting one of the first batch realised that we'd also be on first release software and expected a glitch or two. Hopefully most of these will be fixed in software updates.

Those who are problem free are probably too busy watching recordings to be posting here!

In general I'm finding the box rock solid and am impressed by how well it does function.

Thanks for that. Is anyone else who has been unable to update to the latest software (so presumably a one-cable-er) been able to use the front USB socket?

Today I check the Schedule list and I see it still has two items which are now in the past!

26/11 19:30~20:00 Inside Out (BBC1 SE)
26/11 21:00~22:00 Sanctuary (ITV4)

Also even worse is no new entry for either of programs next episode!

This could be bad and I suggest you also check your schedule list now...

EDIT:

Also I should note other items recorded last night have worked okay and both of these programs did record.

Anyone else been having problem with subtitles?

Watching recording of Desperate Housewives with subtitles on, they were frequently 'corrupt' - the previous text being present along with new text when shorter, something like (not a real example)

This is a subtitle

followed by

This hello ubtitle

instead of just

hello

(I guess it could just have been broadcast wrong, but it looks more like a bug in the displaying of it)

Not really corrupt but on some channels e.g. ITV watching "A Touch Of Frost" they are early.

Okay on BBC1 SE at the moment.

Re the schedule error, I have sent an email to Humax with the details.

Automan, these could be some of your series record timers. If so leave them as they are, because when the broadcaster does its update that timer will automatically do the changes and you shouldnt need to do anything.

Yes you are correct neither of those programs are on next week.

That is also just what Humax Technical said in a very quick response....

Quote:
“This doesn’t seem to be a problem with the box itself, the programs should stay on the schedule until the box receives a signal from the broadcaster with the information when the shows will be on next as they are series linked.”

Wait to see what happens with Diagnosis Murder and see if the same thing happens with this.

Ah, OK. That explains it. Even if they didn't miss a week and were in fact 'on' next week, I've seen these broadcasters on freeview recorders not update links until half way through the week!

Does it really? Can anyone else please confirm their box takes the same time?
I will find this disappointing to say the least. I get annoyed waiting for my Bluray player to turn on in the same amount of time, so I know I will get annoyed with this also unless it can be fixed in an update.
I am used to Sky+ being up and running within a second or so from pressing the button.

Suspect this is a result of power saving standby on the foxsat (less than 1W) even powering down the lnbs, compared to the 18W the Sky+ box uses in standby. Try changing the standby option on the Foxsat

That's a good point. I haven't got the player yet, but I have downloaded the manual, and it does say there is a power saving option in standby which, as you rightly say, disables LNB loop-through.
Perhaps this has got something to do with the 30 second start-up- after all, what would be the advantage of NOT enabling power saving in standby otherwise? We ideally need someone with the HDR to just confirm though.

'Power saving' does not affect the boot time, it just adjusts what components are kept active during standby.

I had considered proposing to our developers a higher power "sleep" but we are under pressure from both consumers and legislators to reduce the power consumption of all of our products. "Sleep" modes consume much more power and would consume more than the EU guidelines on power and they would also require significant development.

Thank you bob_cat I did try telling them in a different thread

Sorry I am new here- are you from Humax BobCat, or are you just referring to your own companies devices?
Two questions-
1) If 'power saving' doesn't increase boot time, what is the advantage then of having it disabled?
2) If it isn't that that's causing the 30 second boot time, why does it take so long compared to Sky+'s 1-2 seconds?

Thanks.

Sky power in standby is only marginally down on normal consumption and the standby consists only of disabling the video and audio output, so there is little to boot. Not very "green".

I see. Thanks for that info. It still begs the question-
"If 'power saving' doesn't increase boot time, what is the advantage then of having it disabled?"

It shuts off the clock display, for one thing, so saves more power than in non-power saving mode.

On the non-PVR version of the Foxsat-HD it sidables the timer on the front panel - good when it's in a bedroom.

read your own post #139 enables LNB loop-through and other components like scart pass through

Bob_Cat is from Humax!

Disabling power saving means that, while in standby, the LNB loop-thru and SCART pass-thru will work and the front display will show the time. It has nothing to do with the boot time.

I'm not quite sure how deep a sleep the Foxsat goes into, and certainly PCs only take a few seconds to wake up out of standby. But Sky boxes do not actually sleep at all when in standby, they are fully active. Only the video/audio outputs are switched off.

I created a folder called Test and found that I couldn't delete it at all! The File Manager went through the motions, but it was still there until I reformated!

This is not the "can't delete whilst recording" feature, where the delete option is disabled.

Can someone with an empty disk please confirm this bug?
