Do new tellies come with rear speakers anymore?
Looking for a new TV, widescreen, about 28" or so. Had a Philips Matchline for many years but now showing it's age.
My parents have a Ferguson NICAM TV with Pro-Logic Surround - about 5 years old - it came with the main speakers on the TV, two separate front speakers and two separate rears. I see that a lot of new TV's have the Dolby Dig/Dolby Pro-Logic II decoders built in but no sign of any speakers - does anyone make them, and if not why not. I quite fancy the idea of routing my DVD/VCR/Sky+ etc through the TV to decode instead of out to a separate AV system (more cash!) - am I missing something? Help, as always, much appreciated! |

our new(ish) panasonic widescreen set (2 years old now) came with rear speakers.
However you're best going straight for 5.1, even though the decoder will only decode pro logic for TV you'll love it when you connect a dvd player up

Most TV manufacturers realise now that people want to but home theatre kits, amps etc so they do not bother so much about surround sound.
Pro logic is pretty poor anyway so again the manufacturers do not bother much with this. A few high end TVs do have dolby digital but someone might be able to confirm this, most only have dolby digital outputs to connect to an amp as aposed to having any DD inputs. |

I think Panasonic do a DD5.1 set with integrated digital tuner, and all the speakers. Quite nice too I believe.

Also not even digital terrestrial TV produces 5.1 sound so if a TV's marked has being DD5.1 it must mean it can receive 5.1 though the digital input on the back.
