I really don't think all this personal stuff is relevant to a thread about Vincent and Flavia's brilliant dance on Sunday, especially as none of us are likely to even know them so know very little about them or what's right for them or what goes on in their lives.
Also Rasberry I would take anything you read in The Sun with a pinch of salt, they get a lot of things wrong. |

I thought it was an incredible dance. The choreography was fantastic, they looked relaxed and happy, and it only made me more sure that they're easily my favourite professional couple.
very well done guys

The more I watch that dance, the more I like it. And it's great that the Beeb showcased a Milonga in prime-time TV. Next year, Vals (Tango Waltz)

I didn't like it at the start - the bit where she's facing away from him for a minute got on my nerves. And it's not particularly authentic Milonga - some parts look more like a fast Tango to me. And it doesn't feel "led".
However, it is Milonga, which is always great, and watching it a few times, it's grown on me - after they come together around half-way through it gets better. I also loved the cheeky bit where she steps on his toes ![]() (Like my fav milonga dancers.... Pepito and Suzuki and an improvised performance of course ) I didn't mind the shadow dancing bit, when their facing away from eachother...except that it looked too choregraphed and not lead...(There's a good clip on youtube of Geraldine and Puppy dancing in that way.) But anyway it was great to see milonga..I wonder if any of the couples will attempt it on AT week. I think it might suit Tom or even Austin. (It was bizarre that Bruce said milonga pre dated AT....I think he might have got his facts slightly awry ?... surely Milonga is Argentine tango. It's just there's a fixed rhythmic pattern in the music which makes it "milonga" rather than "tango"...so you dance slightly differently that's all...as with vals... it's still all AT. ) |

I'm not sure if it'd be allowed though, depends on whether you class it as Tango or not. Given that it's been shown as a separate dance, I doubt it. I guess, bottom line, they'll allow it if they think it's good TV. Quote:

I've just been watching some of Vincent and Flavia's other dances on YouTube and they really are incredible together.
the ones I've rewatched hundreds of times are the waltz (one of the best dances I've ever seen, no question), the AT from last year, the samba to Bamboleo and now the Milonga - all fantastic. |

My all time favourite V&F dance was that Argentine Tango they did 2 years ago(?) - the one where Flavia was dancing with 2 other men and Vincent, it was outstanding!

Can someone explain it to me as this is the first ive heard of this kind of dance...![]() Thanks. But it was brilliant...![]() ![]() There are three distinct "Tango" dances:

Milonga
Tango
Vals
Those are the three dances commonly danced socially in tango places (which, to add more confusion, are also called "milongas" - don't ask). So, Milonga-the-dance is related to Argentine Tango, but it's not "actually" tango. It's a cousin of Tango - in the same way that, say, chacha is a cousin of Rumba. They share the same roots, but they're different dances. Milonga-the-dance is done to much faster music, with much smaller steps typically. Some of the moves are the same, however. More information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milonga Oh, and to make things much more complicated, there are lots of different versions of Tango itself (show tango, nuevo tango, salon tango etc.). It's a whole world, basically. |

Loved that dance, though i can see that it probably was more of a showdance than the real thing. It really made me smile throughout, V&F are definately the most talented of our Pros, and that dance has made me want to find out even more about that particular style, love it.

(But maybe it's just because I'm misinterpreting the cousin analogy )I think milonga is still tango...the only real difference is the music...which in turn makes certain steps, and ways of moving more appropriate.... so certain nuances in technique and steps are used....you'll still do ochos and the cross etc but you won't collect the feet in the same way because the rhythm is insistent and fast. With Milonga you dance on the rhythm and don't stop. In tango you can play around a bit more as there's more "pausing" in the music... Vals is the same ...the constant waltz rhythm means you dance with accelerations and probably lots of turns but maybe don't use stopping moves (e.g sandwhich) because it interferes with the flow of the music and would jar. But maybe I'm wrong? Will go check what's on wiki. ![]() (I won't even start on the whole neuvo, salon, etc debate. Just look at any AT website for reams of arguments in that area LOL. I think tango is basically a good walk, an embrace with connection, lead + follow, the music and improvisation .....ah but if only it were that simple eh? )

I loved the dance
I watched it again early & i just loved it lol They are probably my fav pro dancers especially flav I love her ![]() Totally agree with what people were saying about Flav's smile it lit up the room & it was so good to see her smiling like that ![]() I think they both seemed to be really enjoying the dance & it was good to see that & i actually thought that Flavia looked at Vincent alot during the dance & i was pleased to see that cause in a few previous dances she seemed abit distant to him, but i think they are back to being great friends & thats good to see. ![]() & i hope they are both happy with who ever they are with

I thought the Millonga was a wonderful, clever and joyful dance. Vincent and Flavia create and deliver dances that are truly beautiful and moving. Their AT and waltz last year were also fantastic. These two and the Millonga were all given spontaneous standing ovations, judges included. Vincent and Flavia can produce, not just a 'good dance', but true art. I love 'em.

That dance was rich in content. I was impressed and pleasantly surprised because they did Barridas which I don't see on Strictly and saw little of in the Tango Milonguero championships either. From the clothes especially I thought it was meant to look slightly old fashioned...

![]() But yes, Milonga is on the beat, Tango is more interpretation. Quote:

I'd love to see a Vals demonstration on SCD - that Milonga was pretty damn good. |

To me, Vals is more Tango-like than Milonga, but that's again probably just personal preference. I'd love to see a Vals demonstration on SCD - that Milonga was pretty damn good. |
