Diana: A serious appraisal
It's nothing really new is it?
Celine Dione started this 'yodelling' thing & it seemed a neat trick...... Then we had Alanis Morrisette taking it to an entirely different level....... Finally, we had Shakira, which might have had more to do with her moderate grasp of the language rather than actively trying to 'yodel' Anyway, it's been done to death, it's the sort of inflection on the end of a line of a song that adds little & hides a lot, a lot of inadequacies........ Diana appears to have had the 'nod' from the team behind the X-Factor & now they are stuck with her. She will probably get away with her one-dimensional performance with the 'winners song' & sell enough to make her big news into the third week in January, but after that, there is little chance of her making a serious impact in the business. That said, none of the remaining contestants would get anywhere if they were to win so nothing lost there...... I think they need to have a look at why they are picking some of these acts, because if these were all the best singers at the auditions Britain is getting below the red on the talentometer....... |

I just don't like Diana. I don't think it's fair with all the winners song stuff and help from producers. Why can't they have "This is my now" which was the original idea.

Hmmm. "This is my now" does sound like a classic judging from the title.
I love the comedy in this forum. It makes my day. |

Below red is about right if this is the best we have then we are in serious trouble, but hey remember some acts would not touch this show with a barge pole but make it the hard way, most who come on these shows are around a year or two if they are lucky, with only a few exceptions to that.
And it is not always the winner who is successful as Lemar proved as he is still out there, whereas where is Gareth, Michelle, G4 were successful but split. If you look at the X show who have we out there? Leona, but it is still early days, the only one who has actually lasted is Will Young, and of course you can go back in time and say well done to Lulu as well! but she could sing. Have to agree with the OP, I think the X production team may be having some second thoughts on who they wanted, but I do think there was an element of not wanting anyone to out do Leona to be honest as well. |

I think thats a fair appraisal.
This year, I think a lot of research went on into exactly who picks up the phone and votes in this kind of thing and what sort of act they want to see. Simon was actively looking for \"a Diana act\". We have Eoin Mclove for the Grannies and the tweenie vote and Diana has captured the hearts of the teens and a big chunk of the voting demographic. She is marketed as \"quirky and different\" because of some rather mind numbingly simplistic traits -whooaaa, she wears NO SHOES, she doesnt STRAIGHTEN HER HAIR, and her voice, IT WARBLES - WOW!! This, apparantly means you are \"different\" and this appeals to the teens who just about growing out of their High School Musical phase and trying to get into \"proper music\". Its pure genius on Syco\'s part - they have totally played this one brilliantly and Diana could literally not sing (oh yeah, she did that!) and still win. Im not saying she isnt talented - I can see she kind of is (even if its not the sort of music that Id buy) but she is very very young and simply not ready to be moulded and manipulated by Syco for a few months before being dropped when their next \"big thing\" happens. I think her fans would actually being doing her a big favour if they didnt vote - she will thrive as a runner up as she will have time to mature but I think the pressure of being the winner and all that comes with it will result in another Leon. |

Cant see her doing much if she doesn't win Allie
The marketing is the only way she'll sell There's nothing new there for serious music fans & there's miles better singers producing new stuff, rather than all this re-working of songs we're all familiar with..... Just not good enough......... |

The cracks are beginning to appear - the \"affair\" with Eoghan, the \"Winners Song\" that has allegedly been chosen is one she has already sung and smacks of \"favourtism\" which will lose her votes. I think the X-Factor machine is starting to haul her in a bit - Im betting something else will break in the week leading up to the final that will maybe kerb the votes. |

Apart from a few people on here Diana doesn't seem to have much support. I personally think she's awful with no talent.
So begs the question - who is actually voting for her? |

Whether you like Celine, Shakira or Alanis or not - they could actually hold a tune and also have stage presence and charisma. This girl is all hype and nothing else. |

Leona did it too when she was a contestant, and she still does it a little - but that's the key point, she doesn't belabour it. Also, she has proper control over it, and when she does it, she stays in tune. To be fair, Diana manages that when she's not suffering from some throat lurgi or other. Even so, I can't stand her singing style, the hand, the image...well, anything really. I get why she is appealing to some people, it's just not my bag.

Wow, I never realised Celine Dione invented yodelling. I wonder if that was before or after she invented having your teeth done.
