Digital NTL and Dolby 5.1
Hi,
I am planning on connecting my TV and DVD to a dolby digital 5.1 surround sound system but I have a couple of questions. My DVD player does not have the 6 coloure RCA sockets thats on the 5.1 system, it does however have a digtal socket, as does the 5.1. Can I use this instead. Also, my NTL box does not seem to have a digital output anywhere. It just has the standard Left and Right outputs. Is this an old box? Or does the NTL equipment not support surround sound? Thanks for your help Paul |

yeah use the digital connection between DVD and amp.
and nope, NTL dont have 5.1 so the best you can have is pro logic from the stereo that NTL do support. |

The only way currently to have 5.1 on digital TV is to get sky+ i think.
Connect the white/red outputs to your amp and you'll get pro logic

Right,,,
So the outputs on my cable box has the red and white rca jacks. The only thing thats supplied with the 5.1 system that I am looking at is the 6 way connector. There is a 3.5 socket on the front, is this how it will be connected? The system I am looking at is http://www.alesis.com/products/ProActive51/index.html Any advice is appreciated. Thanks Paul |

it says it has optical/coaxial so thats fine as long as you have other devices to utlise this! otherwise theres no point getting it.

I have an optical on my DVD,
but like I say, I want to be able to connect my NTL digital box as well - can this be done through the left and right soctets on the back, to the input on the front of the control unit for the speakers? Cheers Paul |

hmm well it says it has a stereo mini (im presuming thats the 3.5 jack). I guess you could plug it in there as theres bound to be some sort of adaptor you can get from maplins
![]() Wont look to pretty though with wires out the front and only one stereo input, so if you want anything else plugged into it like a hifi/vcr you might be a bit stuffed!
