Brendan Cole blasts Sergeant for 'letting down' dance partner Rihanoff- Mail 25/11/8
Quote:
Strictly come dancing star Brendan Cole has slammed John Sergeant's 'selfish' decision to quit the show. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...-Rihanoff.html
The New Zealand-born dancer, who is partnering television presenter Lisa Snowdon in this year's contest, said the former political correspondent had let down viewers and fans with his decision to leave. He ranted that Sergeant's partner, pretty Kristina Rihanoff, had spent weeks training the portly 64-year-old, only to be let down. Sympathy: Brendan Cole, pictured at the Hard Rock Cafe Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Monday night, admits he feels sorry for professional dancer Kristina Rihanoff 'I don't understand why someone would agree to take part in the show, spend all that time training and then leave,' he said. 'It's Kristina that I'm upset for. She's come over here to do the show, given up her time only for John to decide to leave. 'But that's just my humble opinion. 'I just believe he was very selfish to do it. I don't know how he could work in a situation like that for 13 or 14 weeks and then do that to her. 'She got the short straw with John to start with and then he let her down.' Sergeant stunned both viewers and stars of Strictly last week when he announced he was leaving in case he won the popular BBC show. The former journalist had received a barrage of criticism every week from the show's judges, but been saved from elimination by the public vote. But Cole, said Sergeant had been unfair on the people who had voted for him. Speaking at the turning on of the Hard Rock Cafe's Christmas lights in London, he said: 'I think it's a very selfish thing that he did, but I'm sure he had his reasons for it. 'All those people were voting for him for weeks and he left. I don't think the public should be very happy with him, but at the end of the day it's his prerogative. 'I think he should still be there, but he's got things he needs to do so he left.' |

Great, just when people will start to say John who, he has to dredge it up again.

To bash the man who garnered a huge public vote, its a risky strategy to get votes.

God, their showbiz reporter must be bored if all they can think to do is go to the Hard Rock Cafe for the turning-on of their Xmas lights and plead with Brendan for quotes about stuff that's ded and buried.
I actually think that shows Brendan in a pretty good light - he says he can see John's point of view, is sympathetic to Kristina, and he's saying point-blank that all the pros know what they're getting into when they sign up and thus can't complain if one or the other set of votes doesn't go their way. |

PS End-Em-All, if you're going to quote from articles, don't pick and choose parts that don't reflect the whole tone.

If Kristina can respect John's decision, why can't Brendan? Nothing to do with him.

Apologies but I only quoted the bit relevant to the thread title! I cannot quote the whole article because of copyright issues
I'm not sure how it violates copyright to quote an article already on the web anyway. If you were a major national publisher and not a FM, it might be different. |

Well, there wasn't anything to stop you posting the link and letting people make up their own minds.

I don't get the bit about Kristina giving up time to work with John - isn't that like, um, her job?! I like her and although obviously I don't know her personally, I can't imagine she would ever say anything like that herself, but it makes me wonder if Brendan is starting to forget the salary and think that he trains these 'numpties' out of the goodness of his heart?

There used to be instructions on DS that said - do not quote the whole article, make a quote and link your source instead. That's what OP did.

Oh, the Mr Mods take that sort of thing very seriously. As evidenced by the time, only last week, they removed a spoof news article thread for breach of copyright potential

The OP hasn't made up anyone's mind for them by some subtle act of brain-washing by omission. The link is there ~ there's nothing whatsoever to stop anyone reading the entire thing & drawing their own conclusions.
There are issues regarding copyright & quoting a complete article ~ I got a ticking off from the mods a few years ago for doing that very thing. ![]() Quote:

Poor Brendan isn't getting the amount of publicity he craves and thrives on.
Old news as is his 'engagement'. |

I don't think anybody expected Kristina & John to last more than a couple of weeks really, so she ought to be delighted that John's popularity kept them in as long as it did.
I think she has gained unexpected popularity from being partnered with him and will be grateful for that, rather than cross at his decision. |

I agree...Kristina obviously knows a lot more about his reasons for leaving than everyone else as well. Why must it be spun negatively? It can just as easily be her being selfless and understanding rather than John being selfish?
Anyway...its all so boring now. |
