hi folks

looking for some ideas.

im needing to get a new home cinema surround sound system as my cheap and nasty one is broken.

im not fussed about having a dvd player included it.

i would be looking at around the £150-£200 mark.

any recommendations?

with your list of equipment you need an AV amplifier mate. Multiple inputs for all devices and best sound options.

Have a look at Richersounds website for some great buys.

for example

http://www.richersounds.com/showprod...d=SONY-STRK880

but you will need a speaker package to suit this, preferably with an active subwoofer.

I got my complete set-up for under £100 on Ebay. I got a Sony STR amplifier and JBL surround sound speaker package. Connected it all up to my Sky HD, PS3 and Wii and the results are excellent. Do some ebay hunting mate!

Sorry Neil, but there's a contradition in your statements here. You seem to want a system that isn't cheap and nasty, but you only budget £150-£200. It ain't gonna happen my friend.

You can get some nice sounding ones for that much money, but that isn't what you seem to be asking for, you're asking for something that ISN'T cheap.

However, try the Logitech 5500's - a wide variety of digital and analogue inputs in a 5.1 surround sound package.

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/hcs-ci...kit/ht-ddwg700

or

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yamaha-AV63-.../dp/B0018LZ6JU

what would be best?

the sony is massively restriced on connections according to the spec sheet on that page so I would go for the Yammy as it has 2 x optical connections and a digi coaxial connection should you need it.

amp choices

http://www.denon.co.uk/site/frames_m...detail&Pid=388 denon £400

http://www.eu.onkyo.com/products/TX-SR606.html onkyo £400

http://www.richersounds.com/showprod...Y-STRDG820-BLK sony £250

you need as many HDMI inputs as possible and HDMI 1.3 with Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital EX, and DTS-HD Master Audio as well

just get one of these and use your speakers, if you want you can upgrade the speakers later; but the amp is the key

I still say go for the Yammy, and i've got a Sony at home so i'm not being biased. I just think that the Yammy offers better value for money out of the 2.

How about this. It looks pretty good for a low budget.
