Nokia "Comes With Music" phones - Beware !!
It seems that Carphone Warehouse either don't know, or are misleading their customers when purchasing the new Nokia "Comes With Music" phones.
The music is downloaded as .wma files with DRM protection. You can only play your downloaded songs on 1 PC (as well as your CWM phone) They are not "mp3 files that you can transfer to any pc or your ipod" etc Buyer beware !! |

maybe you should complain to the ASA if you feel you have been mislead???
But we knew that didn't we???? I mean on the face of it it seemed unlikely that you'd get free DRM free unlimited music for a year. |

Yep, I knew about the WMA and DRM from the start. All the literature I have seen has stated how the music can be used.

My own fault I suppose, I should have researched in a bit more depth, rather than just relying on the advice of a CPW salesman

CPW are crap - I'd never buy from them, they try and force deals down your throat, even as you're walking out the shop.

I definately would not buy from them if you cant use the songs after you cancel your contract and you can't share them... What a waste of space that is then!

not sure why you mean by you can't share them... you can't download an unlimited amount of musics and give it to your friends no. |

You can use them elsewhere if you have a bit of experience.
If you have DRM files, burn them to CD as an audio CD. Then rip the CD to MP3 - and hey presto - you're ready to go. The DRM cannot be passed to CD so it is stripped out - saying that, I did this over a year ago, I'm not sure if they have updated DRM - but there's always programs available to strip DRM if you Google long enough! |

CWM tracks have DRM that disables CD burning.
To be honest if you going thru the effort to figure out how to remove DRM then there are far easier ways to get tracks. |
