Does anyone like and buy these? I remember my mum always used to get a box at Christmas years ago. Haven't had any in years.

I definitely like Medjool dates. Unfortunately, I definitely dislike their price!

I buy dates every year at Christmas to make Date Pinwheel cookies.

I kept buying Dates stuffed with walnuts from Waitrose last year. They were really nice

My mum used to always go on about dates and figs too. They are banned in our house as they go down a little too well with the husband, if you know what I mean

Here's my recipe for dates.

Buy two large bunches of fresh dates, or boxes of dried.
Take them out to a remote corner of your garden, well away from the house.
Sprinkle them with copious amounts of petrol, kerosene, paraffin or other inflammant.
Taking care to stand well back, throw lighted match on dates.
Cook until carbonised and scatter the ashes to the four winds.

Repeat daily until end of date season.

From the tone of your post I gather you don't like dates.

every xmas my Nan would buy a box of dried dates, stuff them with marzipan and put walnut on top, all my least fave foods, but somehow together they all work.

Ah yes, the christmas dates - not authentic in our house unless they had Eat Me on the box.
