My Flatmate and I were Old School fans in years gone by, and he bought me a year's subscription for last Christmas. I will agree it ain't what it used to be, but the bits that work, really work-the Fat Slags, Roger Mellie for example. The bits that don't are mainly those that require being brought up on D.C Thompson comics-nobody under 30 reads them or was brought up in that culture.
Roger Mellie, however, is basically the prototype for Alan Partidge, and is always going to be brilliant. And will make 3rd division/c-list slebs squirm. If they have any sense of self-awareness,shame,conscience, irony... Mind, the Drunken Bakers are well pat their "Best Before" date. |

My all time favourite was a one off called Balsa Boy about an old guy who built a son out of balsa. In the end he's locked up and a nurse or someone is giving him his tea. When the door closes he says "I know, I'll call you scone boy." I always thought that was brilliant. Another one off that was great was Topless Skateboarding Nun.
