Vodafone - how stupid is this?!!
Okay, so I have one of those SIM only rolling 30 day contracts with Vodafone and I want to go ahead and get the new Blackberry Storm. I mentioned this in another tread and was told it was a little complicated, but that Vodafone should be able to transfer the number to a pay-as-you-go account and then transfer it back to the new contract with the Blackberry and this could be done in 10 mins. Anyway, popped into one of the official Vodafone stores today and I was told I had to give 30 days notice and order my PAC code and then sign up for a new contract. How bl**dy ridiculous is that?
I don't see how my current contract (I pay monthly by direct debit) is any different that being out of contract if I previously had a handset on contract with Vodafone. They don’t make you go through that bother when you want to upgrade. I appreciate that I have to sign/commit to 18 or 24 months to get the Blackberry, but why can't they just transfer me to the new contract? It just seems ridiculous!! Does anyone know if there is any way around thing? I don't want to wait 30 days (because that'll be after Xmas now) and it all just seems silly have to order a PAC code/give notice when I'm trying to stay with the same network. |

The point about SIM only is that it doesn't come with a phone. So you have to change to a new contract to get the phone. To end your current contract you have to give 30 days notice. That sounds reasonable to me, its what you agreed to when you took out the SIM only contract.

to cancel your 30 day contract you will still need to give 30 days notice to cancel, when that period is up it should transfer to payt when you will then be able to move it back to contract.
You do not need a PAC to move to payt |

Can you explain what they did because then perhaps I can get someone at Vodafone to do it. Did they move you to a PAYG and then a few mins later transfer you from a PAYG to a new contract? Did you keep the same number too?
I didnt have to give any notice period becuase as the assistant quite rightly explained, I wasnt leaving VF merely "upgrading". I had only been a customer on Simonly for 6 weeks before switching. Shame in the end I took the phone back (Storm) and then had a multitude of problems switching to a Bold... but thats another story..... |

Yes, thats exactly what happened.. In the shop, the assistant made a call to VF and switched me to PAYG. We waited a few mins after this had been requested and confirmed by trying to make a call, that it had been switched. She then opened a new contract on their system and transfered my PAYG number to this contract. 5 mins later, I was able to make calls quite happilly on my new phone... Total time spent in the shop was no more than 15 mins from walking in on a SimOnly deal to walking out on an 18mnth contract.

Thanks for the info. I just called 191 and he said the same thing. Didn't mention tranfering to PAYG, etc, but said that he couldn't see why I would need to give 30 days notice as I was staying with Vodafone. I think I will go back to the store today and kick some Vodafone butt

Just ti point out that this is Vodafone being silly. Other networks allow people on SIM Only deals to upgrade to full contracts after a short period. Usually 90 days or so - which makes sense as you are committing for longer. Threaten to take your business elsewhere to see if they rectify it.

Vodafone can upgrade you from a SIM ONLY to a full contract in store no need to give notice or get a PAC you just need to have had the sim only for 3 months.
I had a sim only and moved to a full contract with a BB Storm about 2 weeks back in store |
