Ok, can somebody settle an argument. Do you eat soup, or drink it?

If chewing is required then you're eating it, if not then drinking, maybe?

Depends on it's consistancy. If it's completely smooth, you drink it. Otherwise, you eat it. Either way - it involves ingestion...

I pondered this - and surely the same could be applied to porridge (ie consistencies), but nobody would say that they "drink" porridge I don't think?

You are meant to push your spoon away from you and you are meant to use your side bun to wipe away the drips from your spoon

But you could do what I do and dunk your bread in

I know how, I just don't choose too.
The same way that I have cake forks and other paraphernalia that are never used any more.
Shame really...

But then it wouldn't be porridge - it'd be a bowl of milk with a few porridge flakes in it

No - it would be very thin porridge, or thick milk, depending how you look at it .

By definition, one drinks soup because it is a liquid. It is possible to eat the bits (if it has got bits in) but they are not the soup itself.
