Can't anyone help with this and advise on what equipment I might need.

I have an IDTV which I've currently got hooked up to an old analogue DVD/VCR combi.

However, I want to ditch this and buy something that'll let me record one Freeview channel whilst watching another.

I don't really care if it's a hard drive, DVD recorder or a bit of both.

What features should I be looking for to let me do this with an IDTV?

as long as its got a built in digital tuner then you should be fine. most hard drive recorders have 2 tuners. so you will be able to record 2 things on there, and watch a third freeview channel on your idtv, all at the same time.

A Topfield or Humax PVR would be good products to start looking at.

Two Freeview tuners each, a hard drive for recording up to two channels at once whilst watching something previously recorded or watching something live from the TV's FV tuner. Excellent EPGs, easy to use and good quality.

Your first mistake is mentioning IDTV at all, you don't record 'from your TV' and never have, the recorder records from it's own internal tuner.

As suggested, something like a Humax 9300 will allow you to record two programmes at once (using it's internal tuners), while you watch a third using the TV's own tuner.

Although often you will be best off, watching one of the PVR tuners as a matter of course (rather than the in-built tuner)

That way you will get some of the other major benifits of a PVR i.e. Pause and Rewind live TV, Instant Record etc

Assuming the box you buy offers those features

I thought it was possible to record onto video or dvd by connecting a IDTV via scart.

This is what I assumed the OP had been doing originally (but wanted to record one channel while watching another)

It's possible, but it's not something you want to be doing.
