Best pop song of 2003 so far?
Yes i know its hardly been the bestest year for music....lol....Well it has in a way of the whole industry-vs- the public thing but apart from that you could say it been the Americans year really hasnt it.
Though we the British are climbing up with the Darkness etc so maybe 2004 could be the turning point....i dont know (and doubt very much lol). Also been a year when the real music buying public fans have rebelled against the industry and shunned the rubbish out so to speak (though that hasnt stoped the cheeky girls making an entry in the charts now and then So its been a "OK" year for music in general though the sudden over-flow of the urben music is getting a little bit annoying (reminding me of the whole brit-rock pop whatever era .......whens thats all everybody was listening to:yawn:  ). But lets not forget the sudden rise of good old fashioned rock and indie music coming up again now. So enough of my "brief" summery of 2003 so far.........All i want to know......whats the best pop tune of 2003 so far? Well under the mass media coverage of the troubled pop industry there were a few........believe it or not............good pop tunes that slipped through our fingers this year.......yes there were some. Justin Timberlake......you know that boy with the funy surname that gets on everybodys nerves lol.......Yes his a ****......yes he is a git......But even i cant deny what a great song 'cry me a river' was.......i mean whatever the man might be ....that song was great......was the best though, yes to an extent but not the best of 2003! Jameila......Superstar was a great little pop tune that nomatter if you can dance or not.....You cant resist getting up and doing something silly while this song....great pop tune.....best of this year though.....maybe but not to me. Stacie Orc-something lol .......Stuck....again great pop tune shame it didnt go higher in the charts Beyonce.....Crazy in love.......Now i wasnt a huge fan of destinys child...but they were great all the same.....But this song....no matter if you like the genre or not is bloomin great.......great tune and for the first time in ages i felt it was one song that did deserve to go number 1. But i have to say though.....i do prefer this song when Beyonce sings it live......cause it is a kind've "live performce" type song. Darkness.......believe in a thing called love....not a rock song.....but a cult classic come on lol ![]() Anyways thats my list .......whats yours ? |

Beyonce ruled the school with Crazy In Love, which pretty much hit everyone's switches, and even though it has been overshadowed by the Black Eyed Peas in terms of sales success, will probably be the Song Of The Year.
My list (excluding rock/hip-hop/dance): Blu Cantrell - Breathe Stacie Orrico - Stuck Abs - Miss Perfect Beyonce - Crazy In Love Justin Timberlake - Dance With Me Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River Jamelia - Superstar Busted - You Said No Kelly Clarkson - Miss Independent Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex Misteeq - Can't Get It Back Christina Aguilera vs Diana Ross - Dirrty Upside Down |

I actually feel there has been more variety in the UK Music scene this year than America, especially in hip hop/r'n'b and the music video, the formula for most American music videos at the moment seems to be, urban street, big cars, sweat, and lots of girls in bikini's grinding their ass in the camera. Anyway at the top of my head here is my fav tunes of this year..so far.
Big Brovaz- Favourite Things Robbie Williams - Something Beautiful Jamelia - Superstar Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My LA EX Amy Studt - Misfit Cry Me A River - Justin Timberlake Beyonce - Crazy in Love Kelly Clarkson - Miss Independent Girls Aloud -No Good Advice The Darkness - I Believe in A Thing Called Love Sugababes - Hole in The Head Alex Parks - Maybe Thats What it Takes Quite a mix there! What sticks out this year is the rise of UK Rnb and urban , which I prefer in general to US. Last edited by steveyboybmth : 21-10-2003 at 17:26. |

Jameila - Superstar, this has really been a year for britpop but this song has made her, can't deny it's brill!
Stacie Orrico (Both Stuck and More To Life) have just been great pop tracks. Girls Aloud - No Good Advice was just a great dance track. I would say this year has really been better then last year's music, not so manufactered! |

He has got talent, just think we could do with seeing a little less of him. Overall I think this has been quite a good year for pop really. |

There is another two and a half months to go yet - so I vote (predictably) for Will Young's "Leave Right Now" which, although not yet released, is being played on local radio stations.

I'm not a great fan of r n' b, but R Kelly's Ignition Remix was good, as was Pharrell Williams/Jay Z "Frontin".

Including 'yet to be released'
The Darkness. All of their singles. Alex Parks Maybe thats what it takes Tatu All the things she said. GA Sound of the underground. Oasis Songbird. Dido 'White flag' Evanesance Bring me to life Christina A, 'Beautiful' and a special award ....! Cheeky girls we are the cheeky girls. (sold more than one true voice..for that alone it gets a place in my list) If I had to choose a favourtie its a tie between 'I believe in a thing called love' and 'Maybe thats what it takes'. Each song is a good representation of the sort of music I like, each at different ends of my 'musical preference spectrum' IE. I love rock music and I love female vocals. |

Bloody hell, how could i forget these that people have mentioned:
Girls Aloud - No Good Advice / Sound Of The Underground - both stunningly good pop songs Amy Studt - Misfit. TaTU - All The Things She Said Dido - White Flag Robbie Williams - Come Undone Pharell Williams - Frontin' I'm purposely not listing the rock/hip hop/dance songs i liked based entirely on them being quite a passion of mine, and i don't want to bias the list at all. |

Okay, it's maybe not the best
but gareth Gates and the Kumars' "Spirit in the Sky" is still the best selling single of 2003

For me, the best singles of the year have been:
All The Things She Said by T.A.T.U. (number one in February) Cry Me A River by Justin Timberlake (number two in February) Get Busy by Sean Paul (number 4 in May) The Seed 2.0 by The Roots with Cody Chestnutt (number 33 in April) Brand New Jones by Thicke (didn't chart) I think I'm the only person on the planet who didn't much rate Crazy In Love. I thought Destiny's Child were great, had some top tunes, but that this was nothing special. Quite a catchy build-up to the chorus which you then realise actually *is* the chorus. Nothing to hold onto, really - it hasn't stuck in my head at all. Very annoying rap from Jay Z, and very irritating video, too. A lot of style, but little substance to this song - it's not a classic at all, in my view. Bills, Bills, Bills is a classic.

Im finding this thread quite amusing, its showing not all of you have quite good memories as I thought. Rememer 2003 started in January NOT August. I have noticed a lot of you have put songs there that are quite recent.
Evanescence - Bring me To life has got to be my best single of the year. As was Oasis Songbird. What about Liberty X? They came out with a stunner with "holding on to Love" (or something like that) I loved that song. Recently I have loved The Darkness - I believe in a thing called love. One of the best Rock songs. Also I would like to add Muse - Our time is running out is a great tune! |

It would have to be:
The Darkness - Growing on me - so much better than I beleive in a thing called love. Cant really think of anything else. Benni Benassi was something different. I do know I hate just about everything anyones mentioned on this thread especially Big Brovaz, Beyonce, Delta Goodrem, Black eyed peas and Sean Paul. I hope this is the last year we hear from any of them... |

Jamelia is manufactured. She has talent, but was discovered by someone, who put her image together (short skirt and then flash the knickers at the camera a lot) and a song writing team behind her |
