Yeah, cow tail. It makes the best soup ever - there's nothing like it. Delicious! But, not cheap!

Maybe soup makers are getting it - but what they're doing with it I don't know. Not making oxtail soup, by the taste of it.

Maybe we need to instigate a "Bring Oxtail Back To The British Menu" campaign?

Still waiting for a butcher to explain why it is so expensive? I'll see if my local Morrisons fella can give an answer and if I get one I'll report back tomorrow.

Easter Sunday Black family dinner in Wolves meal. Well marinaded stewed oxtail with butterbeans. We had white rice, green beans, salad and coleslaw, and a request for my roast potatoes on top. Left out out the Yorkshires so it wasn't an entirely West indian / English cuisine. All followed by M&S trifle. I was well stuffed. There was enough oxtail for two ad hoc meals left over, and for me to freeze a big portion for one with just rice to bring back to London.

Dontcha just love that stickiness on the fingers when you pick up a piece of properly cooked stewed peppered heat oxtail, eat the meat, then suck off the remnants right down to the bone. And then there's the sticky heavy sauce that rice finds so attractive and gets so heavily involved with as a bonus. Quiet night Friday, so I'm having my saved portion when I can have a pornographic foodie moment with my own sweet self I might invite a tablespoon of luxury coleslaw, on the side just to cool and sweeten things a little.

Oxtail. Change in the average Wolverhampon market stall. It's now £2.00 or penny under per kilo. The supermarkets are charging way over the odds. And don't forget, you can can haggle over prices, Wolves, Brixton, or any other market. I can get 50p or a pound off with barefaced nerve to argue with those butchers stalls.

For SW London/Surrey people, try here.

Mmmmm, my mum used to buy and cook it for us when I was little - it was dirt cheap then 'cos no one else wanted it. I've never bought it myself.

We have a new Morrisons opening up across the road soon - they'd better stock it! And at a reasonable price.

My local butcher William Rose always have them.

If you have a local branch nearby you can check it out.

Has anyone any idea how much they are?

Also I seem to remember you don't get a lot of meat do you (even though what you get is delicious). How many oxtail chunks would you need for 4 people?
