Pizzas without cheese?
I can't stand cheese so I never have a pizza. I just don't think they are available (commercially) without the gooey stuff.
However I did once try to make one at home with some success. Anyone else the same, and are there any recipes for such? G |

You could make a calzone.
I make pizza dough, roll one out, spread a bit of tomato passata and fill with something similar to a pie filling (chicken cooked in stock with leeks and peppers, for example) fold over and cook in oven. I do add some mozzarella though, but you could cut that part out. It's great done with minced beef too. |

I don't eat cheese either, however, I can manage Mozzarella as it doesn't taste of cheese, and actually only adds another texture - you should give it a go.

Gawd no ! - that's one of the worst for me. The smelly feet odour alone makes me want to retch!

Have you tried fake cheese? I think it is sold at holland and Barrets.
I am lactose intollerant, but I don't think I can leave without cheese, so I've learnt to cute down the cheese I use in my home made pizza. I have made a pizza without cheese before, but it didn't taste right. |

Dairylea was all I could ever manage. G Mozerella does not taste of anything, or in fact smell of anything. I have a friend that hates cheese, so I understand it and all that, just saying mozerella does not smell ot taste funny, although I can see why someone would be put off by it's texture. |

Not easy knowing your cheeses if you don't like them ... G |

I think I recall Pizza Express doing a cheese-less pizza - not sure if they have menus online but you could check. Also in Pizza Hut you can ask for no cheese.

In Italy, Pizza Marinara is usually available which is a pizza topped with tomato, garlic and oregano.

Pizza Express definitely do a cheese-less Pizza. I also had one recently in a restaurant that had a base made with creme fraiche. That was beautiful.

Creme fraiche is a great ingredient. I use it a lot in cakes, it makes them incredibly moist.

You can also make an indian pizza using paneer which whilst technically a type of cheese is radically different in taste to conventional cheeses.

If you are ordering or making a pizza then you can always ask for it without cheese. I call them glorified garlic breads
![]() Ainsley Harriott once did a potato pizza. He said it was an authentic pizza from some region of Italy but I suppose there are many recipies for tarts, flans or flatbreads that would be similar. |

I often have a Tesco Finest Ham, Mushroom & Mascarpone Pizza. Although the pizza has a small amount of other cheeses on it too I thought I would mention it as you could use Mascarpone on your pizza. It does work really well and is very much like creme fraiche.
Years ago I went to South Africa and tried a vegetarian Pizza called a Fetatarian, from what i remembered it had Onion, mushrooma, feta cheese and a mint yoghurt sauce. I know you wont like the feta but despite this pizza sounding a bit odd it was really nice so I think you should try different yoghurt type alternatives - you will be surprised how well they work! Good Luck

I don't want to sound ungrateful here, but the general gist of the replies has been - 'try this cheese - it's not very cheesey' or 'try this, there's not much cheese in it'.
I'm after some actual ways to do pizza completely without. Mascarpone and creme fraiche count as cheese to me BTW. The mention of a potato replacement is along the lines I was looking for. I've even done a bit of rummaging and found that they do cheese free pizzas in Philadephia (slightly ironic) but alas, no recipes. Thanks anyways, G |

I had a little search for you for the potato pizza. I know some of the receipes below include cheese but you might be able to get some idea's of how you go about making them leaving the cheese out and using other ingrediants.
Hope this helps! ![]() http://blog.cookingwithtraderjoes.co...ato-pizza.aspx http://www.globalgourmet.com/food/sp...hen/pizza.html http://www.chefmaestro.com/potato_pizza_recipe.html http://recipes.wuzzle.org/index.php/66/1735 |

Sorry, didn't realise you wanted no dairy related toppings - I do think if your base tomato sauce is rich / flavoursome and you have nice toppings like roasted veg or chillied chicken it'll still be nice without cheese or a cheese replacement.

Hey - I suggested you go for a calzone which doesn't need any cheese inside it
