Apart from uploading of video, which has already been mentioned, but definately worth another mention, I'd like to see recording based upon keywords. This was possible on the TiVo I used to own.

Basically, you specify a keyword, and any programme name or description that included the keyword was automatically recorded. Not just current programmes in the EPG, but future programmes that haven't yet appeared in the EPG.

The only way to have a instant turn on is to keep it on! This is the trick of other boxes (e.g. Sky) whereby they run in pseudo standby consuming as much power as if they were on, so that when users bring them out of standby they instantly turn on!”

It's ridiculous to suggest that the only alternative is a sleep mode that really leaves the power on.

There is already a menu item to enable certain elements to be powered down in standby - the lnb, display and scart passthrough circuitry.

I see no reason why it could have a standby mode that left power on to the motherboard but powered off the above and also the hard drive, fans, video output circuitry, usb ports etc. I certainly would *not* use as the same power as being "on" if left like this.

Not that it matters at all if it does use the same power. The electricity used over a year is peanuts anyway and the environmental considerations are irrelevant.

I would *definitely* use a "suspend" mode if it had one.

It would use around 3-5x the power to keep the box in a suspend mode with RAM powered enough to allow the box to power up quickly. The environmental considerations are now paramount with the government encouraging the following of the EU code of conduct by manufacturers of this type of device.

Sorry if these have been covered already, I haven't read the entire thread.

1. When pausing a live broadcast, entering the guide or media menu shouldn't un-pause the live broadcast.
2. Pressing record when the programme has already started should record the whole programme, as long as you have been on that channel from the beginning of the broadcast
3. Wishlists. You should be able to auto record programmes that contain certain keywords or actors. For example, anything with Kevin Spacey in.
4. The ability to set recordings via a computer, preferably via a web interface.
5. The ability to stream would be awsome, slingbox/orb functionality (I realise the hardware might not be up to it)

That will do for now

Definitely. Even if the box hasn't got the whole programme buffered it should still use what it has.

Would be nice. I love using DigGuide to set recordings on my Toppy 5800.

See, I disagree with this one. How else are you supposed to just record just say the 5 minutes you're interested in?

I would propose a compromise. press record once to record from where you are. Press it again to record from the beginning (and or add padding to the end time).

Or simply record from where you are. You should be able to REW to the beginning if you want all the programme.

Or Press RECORD once for the whole programme, or rewind back to where you want to start and RECORD for just part of it. The latter being like the Toppy does it (for those who use one).

TBH I've forgotten what the Toppy does without "MyStuff" add-on installed, with it installed when you press record it pops up a dialogue asking if you with to record from now or from the buffer start, seems a good idea, works well.

This sounds like a bug actually.

Totally agree. This should be standard, it is with my sky+ box anyway.

Good idea, I 2nd this.

And this. There are so many options with that ethernet interface included, though somehow I doubt we will see many. For your suggestion, it could work perfectly with digiguide, or even setting programs to record over the internet (via mobile etc)

Of course, other great uses for that Ethernet port would be a simple direct connection to a PC, so the box can send movies across directly, or even play certain formats from a selected folder on your PC.

But I really can't see much happening on this port. As Bob once mentioned, they would prefer not to complicate things too much so everyone can use them simply. Then again, when we are talking networking, we sort of expect the people who use this feature to be a few steps above the local granny.

Well, let's be honest. Networking is where it's all at these days. Gone are the days when everything was a stand alone box. This thing has an ethernet port in it, which means it can do pretty much anything. It's all up to what Humax decide to let it do. Maybe Humax should go the way of an App store as well while we're on it.

Why can this box not stream. I thought Slingbox works with pretty much any sat receiver.

On my Sky box if I want to record everything I have been watching, I simply press record. If I only want the last 5 minutes say, I quickly change channels there and back. It works, though a messy work around.

Like you suggested, an alternative method maybe better such as pressing the record button twice, or maybe holding it down, or maybe one of the coloured buttons.

TiVo does this and it prevents the box filling up with innumerable numbers of daily children's cartoons, for instance.”

I'd like to add my voice in support of this.

I've had the box just over a week now and this is the only area where I think box is weak. We plan to replace our Sky HD box (once Sky 1 has shown the last of Battlestar Galactica) but not being able to delete while recording and having to press multiple keys to perform a delete (which seems to take a long time too) means that management of recordings is cumbersome.

An auto delete when space is required (which I use on my BT Vision box) would be useful, as would keeping a set number of episodes of a particular programme. If not these then a single click delete via the file manager (ideally via a recycle bin which the box could reclaim space as necessary) would be great.

Cheers

It sounds as if you are using File Manager to delete rather than media list. If you press the media button move to the recording you want to delete, press OK you then have an option to delete the file. Seems OK to me although I agree a press of say the the red button (like the 9200) would be slightly quicker

Yes I would also like it to work in much the same way as the Toppy.

I have found that the buffer gets scrapped if you enter the EPG but don't switch channel. I see that as a bug.

1. Add a bookmark whilst watching a previous recording that is paused.
2. The Guide & Media buttons (and possibly the Schedule button) should work at all times (specifically when playing back a previous recording)
3. (This one is quite petty!) - Better consistency in the UI. Some dialogs have a cancel option, others use a close button.
4. The ability to turn off the 'PRESS RED' notifications, which are usually shown in the top right of the screen (like you can on sky+) - I know you can do it with the green button, but I think it should be an option so that it disappears after 5 or 10 seconds.

Definitely agree with this. The other night I had a program paused and wanted to check the EPG and couldn't because of this. If it is a bug, it needs fixing.

Remove the delete restrictions and some of the convoluted remote movements in the menu (a bit too much guesswork -should be much more organic and based on the 9200). I don't have 'media' I have recorded TV programmes only so all that other stuff is just bubblewrap packing to me. I realise other people like it but if I simply had a shortcut to a recorded 'list' of programmes I could ignore it. I like lists, they're quick and convenient because, errr.. they're a list

I love the display but would like to see the time when it's on standby.

Apart from those niggles it's a beautifully designed bit of kit. Everything (GUI, remote, firware/software, box construction) feels just right. Well done to all involved. You deserve our money

I entirely agree with Rayon, I would far rather be able to access just a list of my recordings allowing me to either watch or delete etc, instead of all this 'clever' media stuff. I have no intention of having any other type of recording, or photo or music etc, and although its very clever as it is now, its too complicated.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I thought I'd let you know what happened.

Our tumble dryer caused the trip switch to trip yesterday - carry on reading it is related - and yesterday evening I powered on the box only to discove that Survivors had not been recorded (it's repeated in the week so no problems there!).

I think I know where the problem lies. I also have a Foxsat-HD box (non PVR version) and I had the clock displayed when in standby. I used to power the box off every night and noticed that when I powered it back on and the clock is displayed then it displays as 00:00. The clock would only correct itself when you power the box on.

I am assuming that due to my powercut that the same problem is occurring. Surely if this is the problem then the unit should obtain the time when the power comes back even though in standby? I'm sure the Sky+ box would do this......

Most disappointed in this one as I didn't even think to check it following the power failure and as I do not display the clock when I'm in standby on the HDR, how would I know it's incorrect?

I agree the process for deleting is too complicated, but regards simple access to all your recordings, how simple can it be?

You press the "Media" button and there they are! I think they have implemented this very well.

There are other tabs on the screen for other media types and if you don't have any other media types, you don't ever need to use the other tabs. I think that's a perfect solution.

The only change I would like is a "delete" option on the media list screen, rather than having to press enter, then scroll to the delete option and then confirm. And I'd like to be able to delete folders from there too - rather than having to go into the file management thing.

Other than that - I think it's great as it is.

Well yes, but "this clever media stuff" as you put it, has nothing to do with it. That's all on separate tabs that don't get in the way one iota.

Strong +1 for that from me. It's very much the way I used the Sly+ that I would watch a programme for a while, then if I decided I wanted to keep it and watch it later I'd hit record and the whole program (or as much as was in the buffer) was saved.

I really miss that, the only Sly+ feature I do miss. Otherwise the HDR is a nice bit of kit and I'm very pleased with it. A bit of white tape reduces the glow of the red standby LED a treat so that's sorted.

Chris

Edit to correct typo. I see that I typed Sly+ instead of Sky+, liked it so much that I changed the other one as well ...

I have a couple of issues, when I go into media I find that I have 2 tv recordings stored in then RADIO section there is no video and I can't delete them?
When viewing via hdmi when I switch channels using the page up/down on the remote I get a split second of audio break through, not all the time but most of the time, I dont get this through scart, does any of you have this issue or is this how hdmi works?
If it helps the TV is a Sony
