Cheers - I suppose that could be done as a temporary work around but its alot of hassle to keep it up.

What I was thinking was each tuner could scan all the transponders that the Freesat side of the box has tuned in (or should have tuned in). As each transponder is scanned the signal strength and quality could be compared on both tuners and any anamolies reported (obviously there would be a tolerance applied). It could do this for all transponders and then report the min and max strength and quality readings for both tuners.

Obviously then this could help determine installation issues i.e. if Tuner 2 constantly reads low, then swap the LNB feeds and if Tuner 1 then constantly reads low then its an installation issue. If Tuner 2 is still reading constantly low after the swap then it could point to a potential tuner fault.

It would help those us out there without fancy satellite meters (I've got a basic one) to do some fine tuning on the dish alignment and those that don't know alot about dishes but may suffer from reception issues due to a moved dish.

Do Sky boxes have any fancy signal diagnostics?

They have a basic strength/ quality display which you can use to align a dish,

Secondly provide an automatic archive flag when setting up a recording such that when the box does it's early morning tasks, it will transfer recordings so flagged, to an attached usb device and following a sucessfull transfer, delete them from the internal HDD.

One *really* nice feature would be to allow playback of media (i.e. video) on a USB device. Or copying of video from the USB device on to the hard disk.

I understand there is a vast array of codecs and encapsulations out there, but surely we could come up with something like:

Support for DVD compliant mpeg2 files for SD
h.264 encapulated as .avi (or .mp4 or whatever) for HD

And a statement that nothing else is guaranteed to work.

I for one would be delighted with this. It would mean I can transfer my PC-based HD material onto a USB stick for easy viewing in the lounge, which would be just marvellous.

Yep second the above. Taking it one step further it would be great to be able to either copy and watch or stream content over the network.

In my house that's called a PS3, other people call theirs Media Centre, or other such names. They do a lot more besides (and great games too!). Shame the PS3 doesn't record satellite broadcasts, then I could remove the Foxsat

Ok, some pretty basic ones.. (apologies if already mentioned)

1) The option to NOT create folders when recording a series.
Is it just me or are the folders pretty pointless ? Most of the time there will be only one program (or none) in them.

2) When pressing "media", go to the main recorded list. At the moment it will go to whatever folder you were in last time.

3) When pressing guide, always start at BBC1 instead of the channel you are viewing.

4) Be able to delete a program when recording

5) Be able to do a non freesat scan without it deleting your schedule.

6) Be able to watch non freesat channels when recording on freesat. Or at least automatically come back to freesat mode when a recording is about to start.

If they sort that lot out then it will be pretty much perfect (for me), apart from the Stevie Wonder designed remote control that is

Mine's called an HTPC Sits under my plasma and runs Media Center and stores all my CD (lossless) and streams them (lossless, bit perfect) to my DAC and power amps. But that's one room with my Sky HD box. The Foxsat is in another room on its own, hence the requirement.

PS3's are a nice alternative though. (Especially the £350 price vs the £1,600 for my HTPC!!!)

One feature I would like is one that you can already do with the Humax9200T using Media Controller.

Be able to transfer a recording in progress to the usb device in chasing record. (While it's still recording).

I personally like the folders but an option would be good if you don't like them.

Why is it, the only time the clock appears is when you are in pause mode, and then it's paused as well. What's the point of displaying a clock that's wrong. It even displays it on screen in a little brown box. Couldn't we have the option to display it all the time as on the 9200.
I also find the on screen fonts a bit small. It's nowhere near as clear as the 9200.
I agree with others that the delete function is a bit long winded.
However it's early days and the unit does look gorgeous, especially as it shuts down and goes into standby.

the time is displayed in standby if you disable power saving, the time that is displayed when paused is the time of the recording postion. It is not a counter ie 0.00 ~ 10.59mins

But what is the point of displaying the wrong time. If the idea is to show the relative position to the real time why not display "-5" or something like that, and yes I realise that in standby the clock will show

- This would be great for me too, it doesnt make sense to have to have the TV on when the LCD could be used.

- As others have said, the remote is very directional and is related to the IR receiver rather than the remote itself, the remote controls the TV and DVD player from a very tight angle and even bounces off walls fine.

- Id like the guide to display my favourites in selected order, rather than all channels.

- The ability to play .mkv files which are x264 and ac3 audio.

These are all minor niggles, overall its very good so far.

I also support the idea of standing recording requests by keyword ... and on that note, the FIND functionality by keyword would be much more useful if it searched the programme description as well as the title field.

I previously used an add on to my Topfield PVR to do exactly this, EXTREMELY USEFUL feature, especially whilst series link data is almost completely useless. There were lots of options to it the most useful way for me was to set up a recording whenever it found a particular search word in the title, on a specific channel, during a particular time slot on a particular set of days.

e.g. Record anything with DR WHO in the title on BBC on any day between 4pm and 10pm

Box would then set real recordings up probably on the basis of a daily scan against these keyword recording schedules. Its called a control timer on the Topfield (using MyStuff TAP).

The problem i have is that most of the time my son is watching CBeebies ( 601 ) so when i press the guide button i have to mess around getting back to the main channels.

So perhaps an option in the settings would be good to keep everyone happy.

Agreed, an option to start at the beginning would be a good thing. I'm not keen on it leaping into the guide somewhere in the middle.

If by mess around you mean paging up/down, the quickest solution I have found is to key in the channel number whilst in the guide.....eg 101 for BBC1

Ive found the 1st thing I really dont like and something that doesnt make sense to me.

When you play the mp3s, it only plays that folder and stops. The idea of having all your mp3s on their is to leave them playing, not having to turn the TV on and select a new folder each time.

Once a folder finishes playing, it should definitely automatically start playing the next one and this would actually make the mp3 player usable.

just create a playlist and stitch all the tracks together

It's the same priciple as doing it with tv recordings detailed in the manual on page58

Need the ability to unmount an USB EXT3 drive before disconnecting it.

If an EXT3 drive isn't correctly unmounted, windows can have problems opening it.

Thanks, its a workaround to make is usable but I still think it needs to be fixed. I hope adding 17 gigs of mp3s to a playlist is easy!

Another thing that would be handy is if the lcd showed the mp3 tag instead of the name of the file. Everyone I know names their mp3s like "1 - song.mp3" so the 1st 25% of the lcd is taken up with the track number instead of the title. It would be nice if it scrolled too.

Edit - It looks like its horrendous to add mp3s as you have to do them one by one and I have hundreds if not thousands, I can see no way to add folders or ideally multiple folders to a playlist.

yes it is pretty cumbersome.. you need to make use of the yellow button to switch to edit mode and then use the blue button and use the select all option.

And yes the lack of mp3 tags is ghastly it reads them when you press the'i' button so why not display them on the LCD
