Provided you switch off and on again in non freesat mode (boot into freesat mode) BBC HD's not encrypted either. It's only freesat boxes that have to honour the ENC flag. Sadly you can't get ITV HD in non freesat mode so are stuck with the encryption (unless you have a fta HD box that lets you enter the vpid)
![]() ![]() ![]() I have been trying to get this to work for weeks in Non-FreeSat mode but never had any success until I read your bit about turning the HDR off and on again in Non-FreeSat mode. Big shame about the ITV stuff. ![]() ![]()

I can confirm that moving HD recording to an external HDD does work with no Enc flag.

I'm so chuffed. Got my Dragon (from e-bay, with Predator 3.69) and $ky card up and running for C4 HD. Looks like a good combination. Using an old box (left by prior owner) to keep my card alive. Card is new from $ky (£20). No issues as yet. Just love it when this technology works and I'm loving this Foxsat box!

Has anyone had a problem with their FTV Sky Card in the last week or so? How long does it typically take back in the Sky box for an inactive card to become active again?

Colin Just got round to sticking the card in the old Sky Box. Hopefully I'll have em back in the morning. |

Thanks to the helpful information in previous posts I've taken the plunge and bought a Diablo card and CAS 3 programmer. I programmed the card and am now not sure about the settings in Configuration.
In earlier posts it was recommended to change CAIDS to UK, but no mention of other settings. Does this mean that these should be all left at their default values? |

Yes - it was after installing this that I used Utilities>Common Interface> Configuration to adjust the CAIDS setting and saw a number of other settings which no-one had mentioned.

In simply language, can you tell me what you need to get CH4HD and others, and what will it cost? I find a lot of the information confusing if you don't have a basic understanding of the subject, sorry newbie in this area!!
Woolfynorm You need a CAM (conditional access module) which is like a PCMCIA card which slots into the front of the Foxsat. You also need a $ky viewing card (of the blue type with a yellow house on). This slides into your CAM. Together these will decrypt the NDS content of the Free to View channels such as C4HD. You also need an old $ky digibox to keep your viewing card active. The card needs to go in the digibox overnight for a one or two nights every 5 to 6 weeks, to receive a signal which keeps it active (no personal experience of this yet, so just going on other people's postings). People seem to be using either a Diablo or Dragon/T-Rex CAM. Personally, I got a Dragon for £41 of e-bay incl P&P. Viewing card is £20 (I got mine from $ky, also available on e-bay). The previous owner of my house left behind a digibox which is probably why I was able to get a card direct from $ky as the property was on record as having a prior installation (I'm guessing). A note on programmers. Personally I didn't get a progammer. I made sure my CAM was loaded with Predator 3.69, as previous posts indicated that this works for C4HD etc. My understanding is that unless $ky go and change all their boxes in every household, I shouldn't now need to update my card. Happy to be shot down in flames on this one! There are also e-bay sellers that will program cards for a small fee. The equivalent for the Diablo is Underworld (not sure what version is absolutely required). Finally, please note, that C4HD can only be accessed in non-freesat mode on your box. So, no EPG recording, and you can't watch C4HD at the same time as recording from the freesat EPG, etc. You also can't switch your box into non-freesat mode if it is currently recording in freesat mode. So all in all the functionality is restricted. |

Depending on brand of CAM, and whether you get a programmer or not, cost is quite variable.

by the way, if you did get a programmer for the CAM, it would give the added flexibility to decrypt content from other satellites - assuming you have the facility to listen to those satellites, e.g. motorised dish, or multiple LNBs with DiSeq switch etc. That's all outside my experience, but I think that's where the programmer comes in handy. Alternativelty, if you end up with a CAM which has a bad version of firmware on it (i.e you find it doesn't work for C4 HD etc), a programmer would give you your own flexibility to update it.

If your address has a tv licence thn you can get the card from $ky for £20 more info here: http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk Q: I already have Sky digital satellite equipment - what else do I need? A: All you need to gain access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a Freesat from Sky viewing card, which costs just £19.57. If you’d like to access the interactive services available, you’ll also need a working phone line. To purchase a viewing card please phone Sky on 08448 244 400. Quote:

There doesn't seem to be any requirement to already be known to Sky to order a card. I have never had any previous contact with them, but they were happy to sell me a card over the phone. I am waiting for a cheap box I bought off Ebay to get this activated - apparently you have to place the card in a Sky box and telephone a special number, then the card should be activated within two hours.
And can anyone answer my original query about configuration settings? |

I can confirm that they don't care whether you've got Sky equipment or not, you can buy a £20 card off them regardless of any previous subscription.
Note that you'll also get a new card sent to you (for free) if they update them in the next 3 (think it's 3..) years, so you'd be good for this April's rumoured update. HOWEVER! Noone knows if the new cards will work with the CAMs or not. It could be a long time before any new card works properly. |

After a false start with Underworld 163 (apparently there was a problem with NDS cards) I succesfully installed Underworld 165 and now have access to Fiver, Five US and Sky3.
However there appears to be a problem with Channel 4 HD which suffers from brief glitches (usually pixellation in small patches). I've checked with Diagnostics and signal strength is 90%. Quality is 100% but dips to 0% intermittently. The other channels on this frequency, 11798H, show the same effect, though not always to the same extent. Any ideas as to what might be causing the problem? I've checcked the cables from wall plate to box are screwed tight. |

Those on e-bay are stolen ... as BSkyB cards are the property of BSkyB. Buying a card from BSkyB is not only honest but also sensible as you receive replacements if necessary for up to 3 years ![]() Quote:

When the card is placed into the $ky digibox overnight, does the box need to be connected to a dish, and/or tuned to a specific channel to receive the activation signal? Excuse my ignorance, but I've never subscribed to Murdoch.

It has to be connected to a dish pointed at Astra2.
