Does your cat have a mad 5 minutes?

Once in every few days one of my 2 girls just suddenly goes "on one". Dashing around the house, jumping over the dog, out the flap, in the flap, into the bedroom goes daft on the bed then into another room on & on. It's quite scary in an amusing way. The other cat and the dog just sit looking puzzled

Oh yes.

Usually once a day in the evening.

One will lose it first and that usually triggers the second one to join in .... then they go into "herd of elephants" mode for the next 15/20 minutes.

Always entertaining.

Yes "Bumble" has a mad half an hour normally in the evening. Lots of runnning up and down the stairs jumping on any thing and everything.

My Kit-Cat (she is not yet an adult but not quite a little kitten any more so am not too sure what to call her? I like Kit-Cat though )

Tend to have several of these thorugh out the day she'll leap from pieces of furniture, pounce on anything that moves (and anything that doesn't move!), she'll scale the blinds, the washing rack, the kitchen units - we'll hear her in the bath knocking stuff off of the sides - she is literally like lightening!

And then she'll have a nap, bless her!!

Mine does this too. Usually about 10pm - tearing in and out of our bedroom and the living room like a mad thing, leaping on things (quite often parts of me) then running off again.
I also found little paw prints in the bathroom sink the other day so she explores quite extensively when we are out.

My girl sweep does this about twice a day, she'll just go absolutely mad, running up and down the stairs, in and out of all the rooms she's only small but from the noise she makes you'd think she was huge!

Oh yes I can sympathise - mine does this whilst wearing clogs lol She makes so much noise running up and downstairs -if I happen to be in bed watching tv she actually jumps on the bed comes right up to my face and 'growls' at me and then scuttles off - my wallpaper at top of stairs is torn to bits - she is 18 months old and I keep thinking its going to stop but it just goes on and on - it is funny tho

Our older cat Frodo usually has a mad 5 minutes where he'll run around, leaping on and off furniture and making weird yowling sounds. Then he goes into the litter tray, has a poo and settles back down again

He's very odd

The last one made me howl.

Sorry to hijack a cat thread, but I honestly didn't realise cats did this too. I thought 'maddies', as we call them in our house, were restricted to dogs. My retriever used to have plenty of them in her puppy days, chasing her tail, racing up and down the front hall (skidding at each end ), barking at herself, and generally being very silly. It always seemed to be when she needed a number 2 though

Rainbowgirl, these pics are great. The last one is like "What on earth?"

My two tend to chase each other all over the house. Bit like Benny Hill, one goes up the stairs chasing the other, then it is reversed when they come down the stairs!

They tend to go over the beds etc. Drives us mad because it is so loud!

How on earth does she get up there?!?!?

One of mine starts climbing about the bannisters when she takes a mad turn. The problem being, the bannisters are thin (plank of wood thin) and, due to the way the house is laid out (sort of stepped over 5 levels) it's quite a long drop if she loses her footing! (She always goes right up to the top of the stair before starting her clambering) Thankfully (touching wood frantically) thats never happened ...... yet!

We're on our 3rd springer spaniel and every one of them had 'maddies' - rushing about at great speed and the said skidding - hilarious to watch

Great photos Guys !!

My two seem to have a mad life.. they tend to be more mad if they haven't been out, but they'll have their mad moments outside two... nobody can ever say cats don't know how to have fun !

my young cats have funny mad moments

BTW
did you know their hearing is so good they can hear a mouse's footstep?
can;t remember what the distance is, but it's an amazing one
and maybe explains why they sometimes run at something invisible

My two are like that every time one of them leaves something big in the litterbox. I don't know if it's a kind of, hey, look what I've done, aren't I clever or what but it drives them potty and then the other one joins in. Smashed plates and cups, duvet pounced on and bags ripped and they've been known to run across my head, in their mad game of tag, as I sit on the sofa.

One of them does a damn good impression of crazy frog too!

With regard to their hearing, 'm quite pleased it's so good as they act like two little guard cats everytime someone approaches the front door (sitting there waiting)...and then about 20 seconds later the bell rings! God bless them.
