It's good to hear of a happy ending to a story on this thread for a wee change .

Mirage, presumably as your daughter is a vet nurse she would be able to say if the foods you mention are right for the condition?

I'll ask my vet although they have a vested interest in supplying the food!

Anyway, I've phoned the vet this morning and he is fine and ready to come home this afternoon as soon as I've finished work.”

The food I get is recommended by the vet. One of the main things I was told. was that this particular food is very low in phosphates, sodium and something else, which apparently helps reduce the crystals. I have stood in the supermarket and looked at the ingredients of the other dry foods and Go Cat was one of the highest in phosphates. My cats were fed this, as it's one of their favourites, but since I can't feed them all different things, it has had to go.

My daughter gets discount on things from the vets, but even with her discount, the price of the food worked out exactly the same as online. So I decided to buy online to save her having to bring it round to me, or me going to collect it.

Glad to hear your cat is home again. If he is anything like mine, you will have to watch it like a hawk, as mine will sometimes try to sneak somewhere other than the litter tray to wee.

I never knew Vet Nurses worked nights ”

Neither did I until she became a vet nurse. She has to keep an eye on drips, animals that have had operations etc. They have a bed there, but they can come, do all the checks and go home for a couple of hours, but she says by the time you do that, it's time to come back, so no point. She has spent Christmas day there too, if they have any animals in.

She is used to it though, as she spent around 5 years working at Battersea Dog's Home in Windsor and at Brands Hatch.

The worst thing is when she brings her work home. She had us hand rearing a litter of black kittens from around 10 days old. I got so attached to them, I cried my eyes out when she re-homed them at 8 weeks. I named them all and was very fond of Kizzie and Baggins.

She often goes to people's houses and moves in to look after the owners pets whilst they go on holiday. She is so dedicated in her work.

Thanks everyone for all the good wishes!!

He's back home now like he was never away! We did have one problem in the vet when he escaped from his basket which someone hadn't done up right and he got freaked out in the waiting room! Luckily I caught him after a couple of minutes and no real harm done except I got a punctured hand through my glove!

Yes - how on earth did people manage big bills like that before credit cards!

”

I would never feed my cats on any dried food from the supermarket. I chose Pets at Home own brand because the ingredients were very similar to Hills which they used to have.

The vet has given me Purina 'Urinary' which he has to eat for life so that means both my cats will have to eat it for life! They said it was cheaper than the Hills diet and other 'patients' had found it more palatable. My insurance will pay 25% of the cost of prescription food for the first 90 days I think. After that I'll have to see if I can find it cheaper online.
