Sony Vaio with 21" screen but no Freeview
I have the above titled PC. It's getting on a bit as I've had it nearly 6 Years. Thinking about replacing with a laptop and giving the pc to my g/daughter to use as a TV/DVD player. It has its own arieal socket and analogue tuner built in but no scart socket so cannot plug in a Freeview box. Does anybody have any idea of a way round getting freeview onto the PC

It's one of the PCand monitor all in one type where all you can add to it is more memory, no access to any internal pci slots.

If the PC has an analog tuner then you just need a Freeview box which has an RF modulator in. This adds the output of the Freeview box to the aerial signal before you then feed it to the PC and you tune in the Freeview box signal just like another channel. (like we used to do with video recorders!)
Be aware that lots of Freeview boxes have "RF pass though" or "RF loop though" which just pass the aerial signal through but don't add the Freeview output to it. Be sure the spec specifically says it has an RF modulator built in. There are several Freeview boxes specifically marketed at those with TVs without SCART sockets, like these from TVonics; http://www.tvonics.com/digital-set-t...s/mfr-200.html http://www.tvonics.com/digital-set-t...s/mfr-300.html (Can be found cheaper from other online sources than the tvonics website!) |
