Maybe a silly question!!
This may be a silly question for you guys who are into all the latest AV equipment by please bear with me...
I have a HD ready Panasonic TV and a DVD recorder currently using Freeview but shotly to change to FreeSat with a Humax HD-PVR and a basic Panasonic Home Cinema system. I also have a half decent Hi-Fi stereo set-up with Marrantz Amplifier, CD deck and Tuner. My wife uses the stereo system a lot more than I do and still prefers 'normal' stereo fronm just the two main speakers. Would a new AV receiver be able to replace my existing stereo amplifer and tuner and provide the basis of a Blu-ray home cinema system and still be able to provide the normal stereo as well. Many thanks in advance for any information or views |

but it depends on what your needs are. If you listen to a lot of music from the hifi like CD/radio, then 2 speakers is the way to go.
If you want the best from tv and film, you need DD 5.1, alhough from what I have seen, only expensive systems are worth it. The cheap options dont have the power, and the effects around you dont show up enough. Its overhyped technology, and is not upto the claims unless its a top end system. Dave |

A cheap amp with good speakers will normally sound worse than a good amp with cheap speakers. Good speakers are often more difficult to drive, so need a good amp. Cheap speakers are normally easy to drive, so will work with any amp. Of course, you should strive for a balanced system, but I'd always upgrade from the source downwards. As for speaker cables, ordinary twin and earth mains cable does a very good job in most systems. |

perhaps you would like to advise us what speakers and cable to buy ??
its all to do with what budget you have i have a trusty old DENON AVCA10SE running a 5.1 set of KEF TDM Reference Series THX speakers (black) including THX stands using Kimber 4TC on the fronts and kimber flat cable on the rears. still got my pioneer multi region 717 dvd player and a poor old ps3 + sky hd my only issue is the amp does not have hdmi ps: i got the kimber cables very very cheap so that was a major bonus . yes they might be a few years old now (with the exception of the ps3)but hey the sound is fantastic. i hope they meet your standards ![]() so i say buy the best you can aford at the time ![]() oops almost forgot as h5djr didnt give us his budget its hard to advise what to buy |
