I hate to start yet another "what phone shall I get" thread but at least I know what I'm looking for so can give some details.

I want a smartphone and thanks to a thread I started yesterday and also other stuff I've been reading, I've decided that Symbian is better for me. I've also decided that as I do a lot of emailing, hard keys rather than a touch-screen would be best (although both would be nice if they exist). I do lots of web surfing too so a big screen is a must.

I want the usual radio (although that isn't essential), media player, some form of video streaming capability, copy/paste is a MUST, Wifi is a MUST, and a camera (doesn't have to be a super-dooper one, just something basic is fine).

I already have a Nokia N82 so something a bit better with a larger screen would be nice. I would go for the Nokia N85 but I need it to be free or at least nearly free with a contract no more than £30 per month. So far I've only seen Orange sell the N85 and have been told T-Mobile probably never will! Am I asking too much maybe?

I was wondering about a Blackberry but....Well I only think of them as business phones but the latest specs do look good. I'm not sure how cheap they are though.

Any suggestions please?

Blackberry have gone quite a way to shedding their "business phone" image and being more consumer friendly - lots of non-business people I know have them.

If you do a lot of emailing, you really need a full qwerty keyboard like those either on windows mobile devices or blackberry. Apart from the Storm which is touchscreen, the other blackberries should meet your needs, the bold in particular.

I think blackberry bold is probably your ideal phone.

Ok thanks for that TheBigM. I did have a look at the Bold and Storm the other day on a review site and thought they seemed ok. I'll take another look now and see how much it'll cost and what contracts are available.

I've also just noticed that the Nokia N96 is available on an Orange contract for £35. I'd stretch to that if I had to. I would prefer the cheaper N85 as I think it's superior, but it's something to consider anyway.

I was wondering myself about a full QWERTY keyboard. I think actually I'd like to try one out for ease of use before buying. I feel a visit to a phone shop coming on.

Have a look at the E71. Seems to cover everything that you asked for.

BT@home - Thanks, I looked at a review for it last night but there was something about it I questioned - I can't think what now so will definitely take another look.

I've also just looked at the Blackberry bold as recommended, and that does seem like it has just what I want. I do like my gadgets and toys too so would like as many extras as possible, but I know I can't have everything without paying money I don't have.

I guess the E71 would be Symbian, yea? So I could add to it if I wanted, which I'm guessing I couldn't do with the Blackberry.

Does anyone know how large the screen is on the BB Bold? I read lots about resolution but not the actual size.

Do you guys think it's easy typing on a QWERTY keyboard while holding the phone with one hand, like it is with a 'normal' keyboard?

Sorry for all the questions.

Looking again, the BB Bold and Nokia E71 both have tiny screens, and that really puts me off. A big part of my usage is surfing, so I need a large screen. Otherwise I liked both those phones.

Back to the drawing board I think. I feel like I'm back at the N85 or N96 if it's even possible to buy them at the moment in my budget. I have that option of the N96 from Orange at £35 a month I guess.
