how long to roast veg?
hello! anyone know how long you'd need to roast carrot and parsnip for at 150c? will have a casserole in at same time, so cant raise the temp, and the second oven will be used to do the kids fish fingers lol

Twenty minutes to half an hour depending on how soft you like them.

I'd saute them off first to partially cook them and give a bit of colour, 150c might be a bit low?

Tip.. add sea salt, ground pepper, olive oil and maple syrup (or honey). Absolutely delicious!

I usually give them 30 mins at 200c, just so they start to caramelise
A lot depends on how thick you cut the veg though, always better to judge with your eyes rather than going by a timer |

Talking of which, does everyone cut the hard central stalk out of the parsnip, or not?

Nope. I top and tail it then cut it in half side ways and then depending on the size of the parsnip cut the halves into quarters or such, or if it's small I just leave them as halves.

I usually cut them the same size as the potatoes, I remember when I was little not knowing if I was getting a roast potato or a parsnip, bit like roast Russian Roulette, not as easily decieved as I was when I was 8 years old though so not as exciting

have decided to do steamed and buttered baby carrots, baby corn, green beans and asparagus tips instead - dont think my brain could cope with another thing in the oven lol! |

If I was roasting carrots I'd cut them into thick slices (maybe a couple of centimetres thick) and give them at least an hour at mark 5, whatever that is. They work well roasted with some sweet potato and butternut squash. |
