Advice on computer equipment
Hi,
I have a PC computer upstairs which I use most of the time. Downstairs I have a large TV. I would like to be able to view my computer's screen (i.e. watch videos, pictures and surf the internet) downstairs on the large screen. Is there a piece of kit which would allow me to do this? I would also need to be able to use a keyboard and mouse downstairs too? I have a network point by the TV - perhaps something which views and control over the network? Any recommendations? Thanks. |

I think you are asking almost the same question as I am in the post at http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=942096 the equipment I list will do what you want except allow you to browse the internet there may be replies later that give you another suggestion |

See the thread called "Digital Media Extenders".
You could also consider an ultra compact mini PC with a wireless combo keyboard/mouse. |

There's a huge range of network media centres out there. I use a Sweex MM130 ( an Altech MG-35 clone), which can be obtained with or without a hard drive.
A network media center can access any Windows or Unix pc with a public share and play files on a hifi and TV. Modern versions have a high def HDMI output, but don't have a blu-ray drive (although there's nothing to stop you sharing a BD drive on a computer - but I can't guarantee it would play). Having said that, a PS3 is probably the most versatile. I also have a second PC connected to the TV and hifi - which is the most versatile of all (and modern PCs aren't expensive these days - try Aldi or Tesco's). An internal PC BD drive costs less than £80 with playback software). |

Do any of these let you browse the internet as well?
Sweex MM130 ( an Altech MG-35 clone) - these look interesting. I guess what I would really like is the ability to view my main computer and control it (keyboard and mouse) downstairs. I did consider getting a very long HDMI cable - until I found out how much that would be...! |
