Is charging a device using the "mains" better than using USB?

Hi all,

At the moment I charge my iPod (Touch, 2nd Gen 2.2) and Nokia mobile using USB ports on my powered USB hub.

I could just be imagining things but if I charge either the iPod or mobile directly from the mains, rather than USB, the full charge seems to last longer?

Is there any difference between charging from the mains and USB?

Many thanks,

Steve.

Using a mains charger normally charges things more quickly.

But, if you leave it long enough to give it a full charge, it shouldn't make any difference how long it took or where it got it from ....

Maybe as it takes longer on a usb, you are no actually giving it a full charge?

The iPod mains chargers run off the same circuitry I'm sure (since you plug the USB lead into the charger block), so I can't see how it could be any different. Think it's likely your imagination!

Normaly USB wall chargers have a much higher current than a USB port can supply. My phones charger puts out 1A max rather than a USB ports 500mA max. Some times it can be upto 4x as much, this normaly means the wall charger will charge faster.

I found it to be slower charging via USB.
