Baffled or what

Checkout Richer Sounds Better still phone their sales line or one of the branches. They will advise you on the best cable for it.

If your not too bothered about neatness you could just extend it with ordinary speaker cable. Get some 4-way cable from Maplin for example, and strip the 4th one off.

Sounds like an odd setup, what model is it? Is it a component hi-fi?

Use ordinary speaker cable and you would lose the quality. Buy some cheap GALE cable at under a £1 a metre usually.

I just looked up the EH 560 and it turns out it has tri-amped speakers, ie each of the 3 speakers connects to it's own set of outputs on the amp hence that's why it has 3 for each speaker. You will need to connect all 3 outputs from the amp to the speakers or you will find only 2 out of 3 drivers working, any cable should do the trick but you will need 3 for each speaker.

I have the speakers off the EH-790 (Its a long story!) and they only have bi-amped connections. Weird!

Not being very clued up on these things, why do the speakers have 3 connections ?

And i only have 2 connected but obviously need all 3 connected to get the full benefit of the sound quality (is that right ?)

Thanks Guys,

Hi bren b,

This should be fairly simpe assuming that you have a headphone socket on your tv. The only problem you may have is if the socket is a mono socket, and not a stereo socket.

Looking at the wiring for Cambridge speakers, how many plugs do you have for connecting to a PC? If it is a single connector, simply plug that into your telly's headphone socket and off you go. If you have one connector for Front and one for Rear, then you should get yourself a little adaptor from Maplins. The one you want is JM91Y and it will cost you £1.50

Plug the adaptor into the telly, and then your speaker cables into the adaptor. Away you go...

One thing to bear in mind is that when you test this turn the volums on the TV right down and the speakers right down. then gradually increase the volume. Don't turn the telly volume up too high in case you damage the input circuit on the active speakers.

If you don't understand any of this, come back and we'll try and help.

Tony

I don't know how much your know so I'll start from the beggining.
Each speaker in the cabinet handles a different frequency range. Traditionally the signal is delivered to the speakers down one cable and driven through each without being separated. With these speakers the sound is split into 3 frequency ranges (treble, mid-range, bass) at the amp and delivered separately to each speaker in the cabinet. This keeps a cleaner sound.
If you don't have one connected, you will be missing out on part of the sound.

Have you tried phoning Technics for a manual? You never know they may send you one for nothing if they're in a good mood

Quality speaker boxes will have 3 speakers inside.
1 subwoofer (bass) speaker
1 mid "normal" speaker
1 tweeter (high frequency, screaming etc) speaker

I dont get it though, 3 conections, as in 3 wires, and not 3 pairs of wires?
So your speakers have no negative/neutral?

Im presuming there are 3 "pairs" of connections.

Usually in most boxes you get
1 subwoofer
1 "2-way" (mid/high) speaker

Some speakers...
3-way speakers arnt quality, regardless of any proposed advantages of them.

Sorry,

I meant 3 pairs of cables

Ie:2 cables for each connection although i am missing the cable for the red connection which i believe is bass.So as pointed out i am missing part of the sound.

I'm off to either richer sounds or maplin to get some so i should have the full complimentary then !!

Thanks again for all your help on this

As i said i am missing one of the connections for the bass, does the speaker cable need to be a certain type ? as the connection into the speakers and hifi is red ?

Thanks again
