Cat Eye problem - should I contact the vet today ?

One of my two 7 month olds has always had funny eyes - they were full of goo when we first got her, but the vet said not to worry & gave us some drops. They cleared up fine, but the inner membrane of her eyes was always a little slow to open up, nothing major, but you always knew it was there.

Over the last couple of days it has seemed to be slower to retract when she opened her eyes, and now this afternoon it isn't retracting at all - its almost half way there all the time. She was in grand form this morning, had a spin out in the garden and had her breakfast, but I don't know now - she's curled up by the fire napping, uninterested in going outside again. The fire has only just been fixed so is a new feature in the house, and its the first time its been lit during the day, so I don't know if this is part of her disinterest in everything or if she's coming down with the flu.

My question ( finally !) is, do I ring the vets emergency number or wait until surgery hours on Monday ?

When a cat's "third eyelid" is across the eye it's usually a sign that the cat is not too well. Is there anything being discharged from the eyes? Is the cat sneezing?

If your cat is generally OK, eating, going to the loo and otherwise behaving normally I don't think you need to panic today but it would be advisable to make an appointment on Monday just to have things checked out. Obviously if you are really worried and the cat seems poorly it would be an idea to ring the emergency number to ask for advice. Sometimes this is all you need to do to get reassurance from a vet.

Thats great thanks.. No discharge so far, I think she might have diahorrea , one of them does . she just came upstairs to me chatting as she came & is now industriously washing my hands as I type, so I suspect she's not too ill ! will bring her to the vet on Monday, but in the meantime must tickle her tummy as she's sitting on my arm until I do !

Oh god, my cats are having a very bad day today.. Sooty has woken up from a nap and is now sneezing a bit, and Sweep just jumped onto the top of our wood-burning stove in the living room .. she jumped off very quickly but won't let me take a look at her paws to see if she's burnt them... she is walking aound a bit without limping but seems off form... could it be the scare or has she really hurt herself ? she was only on for a minute before she sprinted off to the furthest dark corner in the house, but is sitting down a lot more than usual, and while interested in stuff, isn't really playing.... Help

Thanks for the comfort , she seems to be in good enough form, even though she looks like she's glaring at us ! she's settled down next to me having a purr at the moment. She's a lovely little cat, but very much OH's little girl. She runs to him when he gets home and follows him around like a dog !

I'm more anxious about her sister at the moment... they both had food a minute ago, so all can't be too wrong in their world. Its my own fault for washing out the cat carrier I borrowed for their neutering and preparing to give it back. Its out of the boot of the car, because we're off to the vet on monday. I'd like to check on their weight anyway...
