Yeah, I guessed so! When it started, I was thinking, "I know this music from somewhere", until I realised it had been embedded in my mind from all those times I've watched Jill on youtube. They use it in the professional competition video I posted. Check it out!

Are the judges supposed to be marking just the contestant, or the whole package? Does anybody know?

If the contestant only, then Austin should certainly get top marks for performing what he was given to do. He's not responsible for the choice of choreography, music or costumes I suppose, and even his naysayers admit for the most part that the performance was brilliant.

God I thought Austin's paso was awful and was shocked with the 10's. There was very little content and I agreed with Len on the waiter comments. The arms were awful.

More the point i thought the performance was terrible. it was so over the top and camped up to compensate for the lack of content, yet it wasn't actually performed in his face. Just lots of self conscious shouting and marching. He also looked lost a couple of times.

I do normally like Austin but i was laughing and cringing all the way through that.

Yes, I see that in his dances.
He follows Erin far too much, often sings to remember or counts beats and I don't feel confident watching him. That Paso was Cabaret and I agree with others who say it was just a minute and a half of showing off. I just didn't get it. The ending was the worst thing I have seen the whole series. eugh, I hated it. I was surprised the judges went for the 10's. It fell flat on it's ass in my house.

To the OP's question, Jill and Darren. By miles

There seemed to me to be as little or as much technical content in both paso's. A bit naive to say the judges were taken in - are you a dancer or dance teacher BTW?

I liked both the paso's Jill was brilliant & I also liked Austins' - did not make cringe - really enjoyed it & so did the audience & the majority of the judges!

Jill and Darren without a doubt
Austin and Erin's Paso was risable!

I couldn't stand Jill. Cumbersome and clumsy at its worst. I can't understand to this day how she won.

I'm Spanish and I don't think either Paso Doble has been great but with Austin, I think it is down to Erin not having much a clue about the dance either.

We have lived in Spain for many years and continue to do so. Will not say what our Spanish friends thought, but concurs with poster 'Forever Awkward' in his/her post saying Erin does not appear to have much a clue about the dance. It was too theatrical - no Paso - no substance.

To us The Halfpenny's Paso will always be the finest we have seen by a non-professional in many years. To us, it was the closest to a professional Paso-doble.
