Where can I put my sub?
ahewitt

I have a Sony HTK215 which comes with its own sub. Now my fiancee is unhappy about "that big box thing" sitting next to to the TV cabinet. So I need to move it. What I am wondering is where can I and can't I put it? There is an ideal spot behind the sofa but will this affect the sound dynamic at all?

Also where can I get a longer cable to wire the sub further than 1 metre from the AMP? I guess that Maplin or somewhere like that will do it?

TIA

From what I understand, the sub woofer doesn't have to be in your view point. The optimum position is in the corner of your room but it doesn't matter if it behind something.

My last sub woofer was hid behind the tv and this caused no problems with the sound. The new HTK 215 sub woofer I have by the tv because I think it looks smart.

Sorry I cannot help you with the longer cables but a good hifi store should be able to help.

Wicket is correct. All the manuals tell you that you can place the sub anywhere, as we have no possitional awareness of the bass sound anyway.

Cool, thats what I thought but I was unsure. I guess its something to do with the size of the soundwaves meaning that we have no perception of where they are coming from but I don't know.

I will look online for a longer cable.

Thanks guys

Does this mean the sub supplied with the HTK-215 only has a 1 metre cable? If so then thats a nusiance, I thought it came with a much longer cable and was going to put it in the opposit corner of the room which is about 4 metres away.

Also unless the plugg ends unclip won't it be difficlult to get a longer cable?

If you have a maplin store near you, they will make up a cable for you the correct length, not sure if this is possible ordering online though.

Yes, Mandlebrot the sub only comes with a short cable.

The cable that the HTK215 comes with is either 1 or 1.5m. It does detach from both the amp and sub.

Maplin.co.uk don't appear to have a cable cutting service. Am I right in thinking that I can just get 5 metres of normal AV stereo cable and just attach one of the connectors at each end, or should I get single AV cable like what comes with the amp?

I purchased a 5m sub woofer cable from Hi-Spek a few
months ago - they normally have a big advert in What
HiFi

Yes I know you can get any length of cable you require but my main concern is that unless I am mistaken the HTK-215 has proprietry connectors on the amp end.

If so are these connectors available at hifi shops? If not available then can the connectors be taken appart so that the new cable can be fitted? I don't just want to join the wires together has this would degrade the audio.

sorry I didn't realise - I know its a tough question but is
it possible for you to describe the connectors ?

or

why don't you contact Sony directly:

I thought the sub woofer's connectors were a standard fitment. The present lead looks exactly like my old sub woofer lead. This old sub woofer has been attached to my son's hifi (new at Christmas) with no problems.

The HTK 215's speakers have special coloured coded plugs which look like it would be difficult to put another cable with it but the sub woofer just looks standard to me.

Sorry guys/girls I thought the sub also had the propriety connectors but it is just the speakers that have them, the sub has a standard connector according to Wicket.

I didn't know has I haven't yet purchased it yet but saw one briefly in a dixons and only took note of the speaker cables not the sub.
