Hitachi Plasma - Component or RGB?
I have just taken delivery of a Hitachi PMA400 Plasma Screen. I previously ordered and received an RGB -> Component converter from JSTechnology thinking that the plasma screen only accepted component video in.
Having just skimmed through the Hitachi manual it appears that the RGB feed from video equipment can be fed directly into the component video phono sockets. Does that make my RGB -> Component converter box unnecessary? Would the quality be any different between the two input methods? Should I sell the converter? I intend feeding the outputs of a few boxes into a Quintro switch box, and from there into the component converter. Help!! Thanks. |

If I were you, Id keep the converter..I had real problems sending RGB to my plasma screen (Panasonic) due to it needing a sync signal too.
There are various scarts and boxes to fix this, but if you have already shelled out for the RGB-Component, you may as well stick with that. |

Yes, the problem with 3-phono rgb sent through Component sockets is that it is usually looking for sync on the green channel.
Most uk electronics (SKY, dvd players, Consoles, etc) can't do this themselves (they send sync over composite) so you would need a seperate box to do this anyway. Your Plasma does however have a seperate compasite phono so it is possible (although not mentioned on the Hitachi UK website) that it would accept sync over this. Anyway - your jstech box SHOULD be lossless, so you aren't loosing anything by using it. Hope this helps. Alex --------------------------------- Pluggedin.tv Home of the Sweetspot video processor |

Thanks, guys. It looks like I shall be using the JSTech RGB->Component converter then.
I have the Plasma panel sitting in its box in the hall. Decided to do some major decorating of the downstairs so it looks really nice for when I do the installation. New carpet, leather sofas, furniture - should make the whole thing very pleasurable! |
