Most of my friends have very different music tastes to me so I don't get to discuss the awesomeness of NIN with people, so indulge me;

Whats your fav NIN album?

I'm torn between Downward Spiral and Fragile my self.

'The Slip'...but only because it's the only one I've heard...and that's only because it was a free download...and it wasn't a great advert tbh.

The Downward Spiral is my favourite. Although I have not listened to any new NIN material since With Teeth, the majority of Reznor's output since The Downward Spiral has been disappointing IMO.

Yep its got to be the Downward Spiral for me too, though I do love The Fragile too. Its still good to listen to Pretty Hate Machine for nostalgia, you cant beat a bit of Sin to get you in the party mood

Broken and Fixed would definitely win my best EPs award too.

Cheapthrills if you ever fancy an awesomeness of NIN chat you know where to come

It's a tough one...

Broken - Good for when i'm feeling angry or sad
The Downward Spiral - Good for when i feel there's no hope left!

My son's favourite is [With_Teeth]. He's 5 and loves singing along to "a-with-a-teeth-a". I don't play him some of the other naughty tracks though!

'Downward Spiral'.

IMHO Trent hasn't written anything new since the The Fragile.

Everything has simply been variations on a theme - hell the entire Ghosts I-IV is simply reworkings of the 6 instrumentals from The Fragile.

It all turned bland once he cleaned himself up.

Wha is it about drugs that makes people really create?

The Fragile & Broken.

TDS follows close behind them.

Plus you really cannot beat 'Something I Can Never Have' off PHM.

Personally, my answer would be Year Zero. I know it's not a major hit with all the fans but the concept is awesome and musically I think it's brilliant.

A close second would be The Fragile.

The Downward Spiral definitely.

The Fragile was good but could have done with being cut down to a single album.

And the mini album Still which came with the live album And All That Could Have Been is also really good.

Downward Spiral, always has been. Later albums are nothing memorable compared to the older stuff.

I've loved NIN since "Broken" and I think my favourite is probably "The Slip".

"The Downward Spiral" is excellent for the first half but then fizzles out after "Ruiner" for me, although "Hurt" is incredibly good. "TDS" does contain their best song ("Closer") but whatever you do, be careful who is around when you play it.

"The Fragile" is about half excellent, maybe a little more. "We're In This Together" is superb and for some reason wasn't a huge hit. There are some duds on the album though, but for me it is better than "TDS".

"With Teeth" has a maybe five or six excellent tracks, but the dreadful title track just kills it for me.

"Year Zero" has its moments, particularly "The Beginning of the End" and "Vessel", but to be honest I can't remember much of the rest of it as it didn't make a huge impression on me.

"Ghosts I-IV" is probably my second favourite - a collection of short instrumentals, and brilliant to put on while you are doing something else. Some of the tracks are upbeat, some slow; some are weird, some could be on soundtracks. I really loved this one.

"The Slip" is a really great mix of stuff for me. Written and recorded in a very short time frame it sounds very dynamic to me, and some of the tracks are just brilliant, particularly "Head Down" and "Demon Seed".

The EPs are worth a listen, "Broken" being the best of the bunch for me as the rest are just collections of remixes, as is "Y3arz3r0r3m1x3d" (Year Zero Remixed - do you see?).

Finally, some fans love "Pretty Hate Machine" most of all, but for me it sounds very badly dated - lots of synths and not many guitars. Sure, it has "Something I Can Never Have", which is excellent, but much of the rest is forgettable - even, dare I say it, "Head Like A Hole", which is a song for which I've never much cared.

I'm partial to PHM. I'm not a massive NIN fan but I can appreciate them, and PHM is the album I'd choose if I had to pick one. "Head like a hole" and "Terrible Lie" are superb tracks.

One if the reasons I get so torn between The Fragile and The Downward Spiral is my favourite EP comes from TDS; March of the pigs, though probably my favourite song come from The Fragile; The Big Come Down always does it for me, there is just a great culmination of fairly dis-tonal noises and sounds into a great harmony.

My favourite NIN album changes all the time, but at the moment the order is:

1) The Fragile
2) Ghosts I-IV
3) Pretty Hate Machine
4) Year Zero
5) The Slip
6) The Downward Spiral
7) A-With-a Teeth-a

I don't have a copy of Broken.

Never heard of them. What style of music are they? Pop? Dance? or the dreaded Heavy Metal, Grunge, Indie or Goth?

Their name should be a clue... They're probably best classified in the genres you dread.

Pretty Hate Machine and Broken - cant remember the name of the first track on Broken (Last?) - i LOVE that guitar!

its probably the reason i like it so much - synth and guitars!

Im a relativly new fan, only seen them live once and therefore Year Zero is my favourite. It was the first album i bought of theirs and i love the whole thing. I have some of the older ones now too, and i can see why people like them too but Year Zero will always be my favourite as the concept is just so great and it got me into NIN

I really cant wait to see them live again, i hope they bring over the Lights in the Sky tour to the UK next year! The US shows have looked amazing.

Although mainly in your 'dreaded' genres, I don't think many people would argue with lumping them into 'dance' as well. Depending on which album/song you're listening to that is.

As for my favorite, I cant decide between The Downward Spiral or Year Zero. Both superb and diverse IMO.
