Hi everyone, why do you watch American Idol?? It is the entertainment of: ________ Of what?

Laughing at the people...? Seeing the judges laughing at the people....? Seeing winners.....? Hearing the music they sing....?

Which reason is your favorite??

The quality of singers they have on this show is a big reason to watch

I don't know what made me start watching back in 2005, but it is a lot better then say, X factor; even though I love x factor. You get no sob stories, live band and the stage is massive, plus the singers are usually much better quality then here in the UK. I have been going off it though, last year and Jordin's year I found pretty poor. Carrie Underwood's year will always be the best!

The general quality of the contestants is brilliant

They all have interesting song choices

The live band is brilliant

The judges make alot of valid points about singing (especially Randy)

I watch American Idol because there is no British equivalent. I used to love Pop Idol (as it is a similar concept), but I can't stand The X Factor because it's not like the Idol's format at all. With The X Factor, the judges are the most important thing on the show, not the singers. The judges make the final decision on who goes, not the public. Plus the sob stories and over-dramatisation in the auditions is awful.

American Idol is about finding the best singer. The X Factor is an ego-trip for the judges, and if they find someone like Leona, that's a bonus.

Watched it this year for the first time and thought it was absolutely brilliant. I'm now a keen David Cook fan and am really looking forward to 2009's show.

It makes me wonder what X-Factor is doing wrong exactly. There is certainly talent in the UK but it doesn't seem to make it through the ranks. And any individuality that exists in those that do make it through, is removed by the mentoring process which seems designed to homogenize. I've come to the conclusion that AI is looking for talent, whereas X-Factor is just looking to make a ratings winning show and promote the judges.

The quality of the singers, the arrogance of the Americans when Simon tells them they're no good, the American scenery-the change of culture, basically, from our own. Roll on Friday night!

The quality of the contestants is brilliant and they have a lot more diffrent music genres from the acts like Rock, pop, soul, country etc than they do over here.

I love being 'involved'...from voting to discussing the show with friends. And critiquing right along with the judges.
Its fun to watch it start with "millions" of hopefuls down to the winner...and even though ratings have dropped a bit...its still the "water cooler" show.

I love it - its far superior to the X Factor in every single way I can think of.

- Better contestants by a country mile - the "rubbish" American contestants are far better than most XF ones.
- Better judging panel
- Better song choices
- Better set
- Better host!
- Better results format
- Total public control, not that it effectes me. Its just nice that the American public decide everything
- Better everything!

Probably as there is nothing on any networks worth watching!
Even Cable now plays repeats against Idol. Plus, I do enjoy recapping it once Hollywood begins!

(90210 is on the CW, but I'll just DVR that!) - T minus 15 mins and counting!

^^^ I agree. There's nothing else to watch on Tuesdays. I just got into House but now it's moving to Mondays.

It's a fun escape

Whats up DAWG !!!!!

Seriously all the above is correct. X factor is good but when it comes to a varied choice singing competition then American Idol pi**es all over the rest of them.

Pretty much sums it up

Although I'm a bit wary of the new format, a contestant that takes a little bit longer to 'settle in' could easily be lost - Top 24 David Cook was on few people's radars for a couple of weeks, completely different ballgame by the time they hit top 10. The TWOP thread is a very interesting read, first couple of weeks he's generally the grumpy looking one with tragic hair and an attitude, by the time of Little Sparrow the thread's developed into a complete swoonfest

I love it! The talent is so much better than the UK plus they are usually much better looking also.

Same reason I watch The X Factor. Because I miss Rockstar so much. Live music with a bit of effort by the tv people but I hate the manipulating of the audience bit a lot. I also resent the mentally retarded being paraded for the viewers to laugh at, but anyway.

This is one of the reasons i love the show as you know the final 12 will all be good singers unlike XF you may not like the whole final 12 but they will all be good singers.

I watch A.I because I enjoy it! I also enjoy watching Simon Cowell. I tend to follow him from Xfactor to A.I.
