Give the HTC Touch HD a look - I love mine & at least with the Touch I can send picture messages and shoot video (something the iPhone can't do)

Comparison of the alleged iPhone Killers Linky

that i would buy. i've been thinking that the n96 isn't enough of an improvement on my n95-2 to be bothered.

But the N97 does seem to offer a functional upgrade.

Looks suspiciously like the iPhone as you would expect but I guess it depends on the cost whether or not it would be a serious rival.

???? What makes you think it looks like iPhone? I can't seen anything apart from the fact they both have a screen.

My comment was directed towards the "Looks suspiciously like the iPhone" comment. I can;t seen anything that makes it "look" like the iPhone. Specs and comparisons are fine, but "looks" ??

A few points

1. Fairly impressive specs, as you would expect from an N-series device.

2. It arrives most likely mid 09. Should be new HW revisions from all the manufacturers by then.

3. Resistive touch screen, not capacitive. A decision I cannot understand.

4. Where is the developer story? If its just widgets then thats a fail.

5. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to S60.

Via Gizmodo
"but the drawbacks of a resistive touchscreen (there, as always, to ensure character recognition via a stylus for Nokia's Asian market) were immediately noticeable when dragging widgets around the desktop."

Ah, so thats the reason for manufacturers consistently putting out resistive touchscreens rather than capacitive. Good piece of info.

Resistive means no sale tbh.

If I go back to my DS Lite these days I utterly hate the touch screen. Less clear, less responsive.

It's something it can't do out of the box, but something it can do very easily.

I don't know . . .the chrome around the outside? . . .the fact they're pretty much identical except it's white?

Anyway it seems quite chunky since it has a keypad and also runs Symbian.

So - no - it won't be an iPhone killer.

The next iPhone killer will be. . . .well. . . .the next iPhone.

Yeah but its got windows mobile on it, which is slow and buggy.

I've actually being playing with the Touch HD and the Xperia for the past week. The biggest problem with the Touch HD is the actual touchscreen. Three things kill it for me

1. resistive - simply not as responsive as the iPhone screen
2. no popup keys on the onscreen keyboard. so you often dont know you hit the wrong key until after you release.
3. spell correction is horrific. significantly less intelligent than the iPhones.

add to that WinMob just isnt designed for touch from a UI perspective and you have a second rate experience.

My worry is that the N97 will also have these same problems.

How was that fixed? Of course it was their opinion, by the very fact they said it, no need to add at the end "in my opinion" no need to state the obvious
