It's not the same, n'est-ce pas?

Every time I drink Baileys when I'm 'out', it tastes distinctly different. Last year, I had a Baileys which I swear had been 'watered down' with milk - it was absolutely rank.

This year, my first Baileys of the year in our local Slug & Lettuce was a big disappointment- it lacked that lovely boozy Christmassy kick.

Some pubs in this city have been exposed as watering down their spirits an I wondered if anyone else noticed this thing with Baileys- that when you drink it at home, it tastes just so much nicer and stronger than pub stuff?

I have never experienced watered down baileys in pubs. In my experience they don't need to water it down as they charge a bomb for it.

Only thing I can suggest is that if they put ice in it, that will water it down.

I rarely buy it in pubs but their is a classy little dump in town that uses knock-offs such as Deep South (Souther Comfort) and Irish Mist (Baileys).

It's half the price per shot and tastes the same when your're drunk.

I buy the cheap one from ASDA for £3.40 per bottle. Fine with ice and maybe a bit of milk & cream if it is too harsh.

I agree it tastes different in pubs and I think its down to the ice and when it melts, it becomes watery. I find Baileys too strong when I drink it at home.

I used to really like the Baileys Glides, whcih were a bottled version and 'milked' down. Not many people liked them, but I thought they were yummy. Cant get them anymore tho

Might it be because a pub measure is standard, and you pour a larger measure at home?
I have been a Pub Manager for years and never heard of anyone diluting Baileys.

yeah for a fellow Glides lover! Shame they are no longer... I prefered them to the "real thing" since they were less sharp in my throat..ahem!

This is probably a daft question, but can you mix Baileys with anything--like advocaat and lemonade for a snowball?

Lemonade and Baileys is likely to make it curdle

I had a google and have found some pretty disgusting cocktails e.g. a Cement Mixer.

Brain Haemorrhage is another disgusting cocktail using baileys. Peach Schnapps, Baileys and Grenadine.

Not had one in years. Horrible.

During my uni days I worked in about 4 different chain pubs as well as 2 local pubs.

Watering down the drinks never ever happened, stock was very tightly controlled (especially in the managed pubs rather than the landlord owned ones).

Try www.cocktail.uk.com - you can search by ingredient for recipes with Baileys

I used to have Baileys with creme de menthe when I was (a lot) younger - it tasted like mint choc chip ice-cream. Or, as others said, like toothpaste.
