Scart Cables

Which is the best to get for connecting Sky+ to a HDTV?

I have a cheap one at the moment but heard that a decent one can make a big difference - this right?

I didn't think it was true because apparently theres no difference in cheap HDMI cables or expensive ones.

Any one point me in the right direction to one where I will get the most quality on my screen please? Thanks.

Also maybe a component lead for my PS2 to hdtv please? Not sure again whether a cheap one is ok.

I think for the SKY+ to TV, it may help to get a better quality scart lead. ie, not a cheapo pound shop one.... but dont go MAD and pay hundreds for a solid gold, diamond encrusted one.

I heard that about HDMI too - but Ive never used one, so I wouldnt totally know.

As for the PS2, when you say component lead, im guessing you are using the yellow, white and red leads?

In which case, then its going to be a "composite" input, which is never going to be great, so I'd just stick with the basic one.

I was looking at this one:

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...s/Product.html

Not sure though what to look for to use with a HDTV.

No component is five leads not the composite yellow/red/white lead.

The one I said above from play doesnt say if its shielded or not - will that still give me high performace though? Why are some scart cables £20 then?

My HDMI cables were £3 from ebuyer - will I get more quality for £10 ones?

HDMI is digital, like a printer USB cord. Either it works or its doesnt. The only question is about the build quality of the product.

Scart is analogue. The more you spend the better the picture - but like the other post said, dont go over the top as the human eye wont be able to see the slight advantage.

The PS2 output is composite (Red, Yellow, White phono plugs) and analogue. Only the Yellow plug contains the picture. The Red plug is the right-hand sound channel, while the left-hand sound is on the white wire. You can ofcourse put the scart adaptor plug onto this, but that doesnt change anything quality wise, other than the fact that the additional connection introduces more signal resistance.

This is why I am going to buy a component cable as I heard this was better than RGB scart?

I have bought this one:

It's twin shielded which is supposed to be good, and gold plated.

I have already tonight bought this one:

http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tv...HT251-150.html

Would you say thats a good one and will give much better picture of sky on my hd tv than the cheapy scart im using now?

And why shielded? Are you saying that if the cheapy scart cable i have no wwas shielded, I would have a hell of a better image? Don't understand that really. But is the cable I chose gonna give me a dramatical difference?

if its the same as post 12 it will be fine

I tend to buy the legit proper cables for consoles though, saves a lot of farting about, time and money

they usually have been tested to a high standard and the market is awash for replacement cables which have not been tested as its a huge market.

just mind to set the Sky box to RGB and select a RGB socket on the telly. Usually AV 1

Well this cable is purely for sky+ to hdtv - the sky box is already set to rgb and I do put the scart in the RGB slot.

I am hoping its just a low quality lead I am currently using - it's a black one with sliver pins and feels very flimsy.

I received my IXON double sheilded, gold plated scart cable today - no difference in picture quality from the cheapo scart I am using at the mo - any idea why?

My gold-plated double shielded scart cost me £5 from Wilko.

Yeah well they don't make any difference. Mine was £9.99 and a total waste.

Presumably your original one was okay, a poor cable can cause problems but once a certain point is reached there are no visible benefits from a better one.

I suppose yes, but it was a cery cheap one compared to the £10 I just bought!
