iPod on new PC
Can anyone tell me how to transfer all my iPod details/music onto a new PC?
So far I've only downloaded iTunes, I'm nervous about plugging my iPod in as I've been told that everything will be wiped as it will still be on my old defunct computer. Many thanks. |

transfer your itunes folder from your old computer to your new one (replacing the itunes folder on your new computer).

I would recommend SharePod for this, you can move the stuff off of the iPod to your computer and then import it back into iTunes. It worked for me! Just make sure you don't sync the iPod with iTunes when it's connected until after the stuff has been transferred. Give the website a read beforehand though!

whatever you do....... DO NOT plug the ipod into your new computer, because it WILL delete everything on the ipod.
In future, I'd advise putting your ipod on "manually manage music on my ipod" (or something to that effect) But at the moment, I can't think of a way to get it onto manual mode without loosing evrtything, it will probably have to be some third party software, as someone said. |

I went through this issue a few weeks ago, heres what you do.
Install itunes 8, set music syncing to manual Install Media Monkey v3 (its free) from www.mediamonkey.com its the only programme I tried that actually works and I tried half a dozen. Media monkey will transfer all your files from your ipod to your new computer no questions asked (although the file name will be different like "VGEP.mp3" but the ID tags will be unaffected. In Media Monkey you can just highlight every ipod song in the library and drag and drop them into a folder on you pc in the left side panel (like i did) or you can auto sync Media Monkey to auto sync music from your pod to the pc through selecting this option from the little ipod icon in the menu bar. Once done use Itunes to import the folder where Media Monkey has transferred all your music to into the itunes library. When you first sync you ipod using itunes after this it will still wipe your music collection but then it will reload all the mp3s imported from Media Monkey back to your ipod tags still in place. Note backup your ipod (non music files) before syncing to sync your non music files/info like applications/pictures/contacts and settings. After this you can set itunes to auto sync music afterwards.
