UMC LCD TV - Is it beyond help??

I bought a LCD TV for the bedroom (Just over a year ago - Typical).

Tried to turn it on tonight and there is sound but no picture. It is transmitting a picture as if you light the front of the screen you can see the outline of what is going on.

Does anyone have any ideas or should I just curse myself for buying a cheap TV and get a new one?

can I guess that the lack of reply means the TV has ceased to be? it is an ex tv?

At a guess, I'd reckon that the backlight bulb has given up the ghost, but given the drop in prices of new sets, versus the cost of an engineer's time to repair it, I reckon you would be better to cut your losses and treat yourself to a new one.

They don't use 'bulbs' for backlights, it's most likely a failure of the inverter that feeds the cold-cathode tubes in the backlight.

But such an obscure make is unlikely to be easy to get spares or information for.
