Ruth's Purple Rain
I know I'm not alone in classing this as the Performance of the Series (so far).
![]() It was outstanding and I just wonder how many people feel that a whole lot of its impact was because it was so unexpected? ![]() Was anyone really expecting that to be so tremendous? I know I wasn't. ![]() Of course we now have the situation that unless you had the foresight to pre-record it, it cannot be viewed again.

Maybe this is why it is perceived to be so good. It can no longer be viewed, and only rose-tinted legend is left with us.

I think that Ruth had quite a few stand out performances, not simply just purple rain, "Love aint here anymore", "Summertime" and "Always" are equally as great IMO. The girls a great vocal talent and no messin.

Was anyone expecting a performance like that though?
I know I was stunned by it.

I agree with One and Only - Summertime, Love ain't Here Anymore, Always and Knockin' On Heaven's Door were brilliant, but what made Purple Rain so good was the shock of the unexpected - we had never heard Ruth sing like that before and it really had a "Where the **** did that come from?! quality to it
I really wasnt expecting that.It was amazing and she knocked Girlband out of the park. ![]() I'm glad I recorded it

I can't believe Simon took it to deadlock after that - especially when she was against the dire Girlband.

It was definately a turning point for Ruth I think, she truly shone, and got better and better over the weeks.
I love Ruth! I love the way she is (sorry, was ) always so gracious and thankful for her place in the final 12. It was amazing, just wish I could watch it again

Being old enough to remember this song the first time round and loving it, I recognised the intro music and was sat there saying, 'omg, omg, she's gonna sing Purple Rain!' So I was excited about it before she even started singing, and her performance was everything I was hoping for. But yes, it was unexpected and unexpectedly brilliant.

When watching it i thought 'not bad' then she exploded and i was like 'holy good f*uk where did that come from'. Amazing performance and luckily i have it on my phone to watch over and over again. I remember the original and in my opinion i think ruth's version is better.
