It's a good reliable phone.

Also going for a good price at the moment about £99.

Just a word of caution. There are some dodgy firmware versions of this phone, so take great care when buying. Have a look through the threads on here about people's problems with the phone.

I got one of those as an upgrade from Orange from a Sony K800i and the G600 is the worst phone I have ever used - absolutely awful, and my girlfriend who also got one agrees. Ours are now back in their boxes and I'm currently at war with Orange customer services trying to get them to take them back & let us exchange them for something better.

Issues we found:
* Very poor weighting, so as soon as you open the handset it is top-heavy and as a result we dropped them two or three times in the first ten minutes of using them.
* Very slow to do anything.
* Awful look and feel of menus.
* TERRIBLE camera - every picture we took, regardless of the lighting conditions, turned out blurry, even when we changed the camera settings. Also I took a photo of myself from arms' length in a darkened room and the flash barely reached my face!
* Poor signal strength compared to the K800i - tested this by having the G600 and the K800 on at the same time sitting on the sofa at home, and whereas the G600 had a low signal strength the K800 was at the maximum.
* Annoying functionality e.g. if you type a message, hit Send, and then close the slider the message doesn't get sent but instead goes into drafts, and it also strips out the destination from the message.
* REALLY annoying menu when typing a phone number, where you either get a picture of the Houses of Parliament with a fountain pen writing the number on a piece of paper, or if you turn this off you get a white screen where the numbers you type appear in huge multicoloured digits. No way to turn this off either.

Basically we hated our G600s...

Mine was never like this, unless you are holding the phone a very strange way

You can turn this off in the display settings. You can choose any background you like, font size and font colour.

I agree with this. It's a 5MP camera but not the best one and the flash is not very good spoils photos but as a phone it's good and you can still take fairly good photos in daylight with it.

Get the LG Viewty, it's a 5MP camera, has FM radio, MP3 player, it's touch though, but a brillant phone!

You change the settings so that it sends once the slider is closed. I got one as an upgrade, really liked it apart from the fact it didnt allow me to use personalised text tones. So it went back for that reason alone, other than that its a nice phone. A friend of mine has had once since they came out and loves it. His photo quality is superb.

The different opinions in this thread are due to the widely different firmwares installed on this phone. Some are so buggy that the phone crashes after typing a few lines of a text message. So make sure you do your research before buying it.

Well I've had one for a couple of days and so far I'm impressed! I don't agree with the above criticism, it's a lovely looking phone and has good features.

Awful, awful phone. Steer well clear. Its only redeeming feature is it feels nice in the hand. Awful menu colour scheme, camera is worse than many 2 mp phones (using the flash brings everything out in a slight pink tinge).

Despite what others have said you can't stop it from cancelling a text when you close the phone. You can't change the in-built text alerts, and with the phone open it's top-heavy and can fall out of your hand.

Don't say you weren't warned!

Why can't you wait for the text to send before closing? And what in-built text alerts are you refering to?

I was snap happy with the camera yesterday and I have no complaints about that or the top-heaviness of the handset (hadn't even noticed and am amazed that it can fall out of your hand!).

If you're in an area with low signal, texts can take longer to send, as well as at weekend evenings when there's a lot of network congestion.

The in-built text alerts.

So you might have to wait a few seconds, big deal.

Yeah, thanks for that.

But I don't want to wait, I want to know the text has sent, you know like with every other phone out there.

Yes, but if you have a phone without the slide, you'd wait to see the text was sent before putting the phone down so I really don't see the problem.

I dont see any more alerts on the G600 than any other phone, thats why I asked.

With any other phone, you hit 'send' and it's done. I normally put the phone back in my pocket and I've already forgotten about it. With the G600 if you do that, the text doesn't send.

With 99.9% of other phones you can change the sms alert to one of your own. With the G600 you can't. Poor state of affairs for a phone which was launched in 2007.

Oh I see, well I always wait for a delivery report, personal preference I guess.

Oh the audio alert when you get a text, I thought you meant text pop-ups, the "are you sure you want to delete" or similar (I was still sleepy!). I don't mind that really, I like minimal noise, one little beep would suit me.

The fact I got it the handset for £25 probably helps with my praise for it
