By now or wait for Jan sales ?
I am considering a major electrical purchase online and wondered wether it would be better to wait for the January sales or purchase now ?
Any advice welcome. Kind regards......Ted |

There are some strong noises coming from the Far east & Japan to expect significant increases in the new year due to the poor pound. Apparently trade prices are likely to increase by around 30%, it remains to be seen however what retailers will do faced with the credit crunch. I suspect you will get as a good a deal as you are likely to get now (puts crystal ball away)

Thanks for the input Guy's.
And for the link glagys. Empire and John Lewis are more expensive but it comes with a five year guarantee. Now it is then.

Wait for 26-31 dec. Panny independents will have sale prices and 5 year for those few days. To echo a previous post we have been told of price increases next year on domestic appliances, haven't heard about electronics though.

Any advice welcome. Kind regards......Ted Went to Hughes the other day and asked about their sales and he said they start on 15th Dec but its very unlikely any good selling set will be in the sale....usually just the stuff that isnt selling apparently, which makes sense. I was also thinking about before/after xmas and new year...think I will buy on Boxing Day as a treat!!

Don't the big manufacturers work on a different cycle to the shops to achieve better sales figures of "old" technology. I'm sure I read somewhere that new technology is is released 3 months after Christmas and 3 months before as they know that these points are the crucial buying periods. So wait until a manufacturer is about to release something new or just after to buy the "old technology" at a better price.
Currently Series 4 Samsung screens are on offer at "knock-down" prices but aren't Series 7 and 8 already on-sale at full price. |

It's a difficult decision, however if your anything like me you can be safe in the knowledge that whichever way you decide to go the opposite would have been cheaper
or someone will come to you the day after you buy it & tell you about a very special offer with 30% off what you have just purchased!

![]() Already happening! We (the trade) are seeing "trade" prices for new stock/orders from the big names like Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic, Pioneer & Sony rising already, but not as much as 30% (I'm pleased to say). I'd be tempted to say - get your bargains now, from stock already in store, because you WILL see prices going up after Xmas. Right now these manufacturers want the cash so are keeping the rises as low as feasible but it can't possibly last - availability/stock doesn't seem to be an issue either. Raw material prices for things like LCD panels are rising across the world, it's not just the £/$ effect. |

I work for a manufacturer and the above pretty much says it all. The pound has dropped like a stone recently, and even before that, most manufacturers weren't making any money. Most manufacturers trade their currency a couple of months in advance which gives a buffer to even out short-term fluctuations, but the current situation has gone well beyond that, so price rises are inevitable.
