Broken Transformer

The transformer in my active subwoofer has broken (many years old now).

I have taken it to my local 'repairer' who has comfirmed to me that the transformer has broken but it is going to chargeŁ80 to replace it.

I am an electrical enginner so I can easily replace the transformer myself but I cannot source one. It is a 2x14VAC 4A transformer but I can only source 2x15VAC transformers.

Does anyone know where I can source one or if I could use a 15V one without breaking my subwoofer?

Try this company, they can usally obtain anything (if they dont already have it) also Rob Potts is very knowledable & will tell you how to alter it if required but I suspect the 15V one would be ok.

Your only problem would be what type of regulation follows the transformer. Though I hope the PSU is designed well enough to cope with a couple of extra volts from a 15-0-15V transformer.

In theory all it should do is run a bit warmer but provided it has enough redundancy in hand it ought to make very little difference.
